SmartyPlants, a Manchester-based company specializing in plant care technology, announced £190,000 in new funding from the British Design Fund. The company works to help everyday people better understand when and how to care for their household plants.

The company’s flagship solution consists of sensors and a companion smartphone app that give users real-time updates on the soil moisture, light levels, temperature, humidity and nutrients of their house plants.

“SmartyPlants began with a simple idea: plant care should be intuitive, not intimidating,” Ben Beavers, the company’s founder, said in a statement. “People want their plants to thrive, but they often don’t have the tools or information to make that easy. Our technology is designed to help users gain clarity and confidence, so they can enjoy their plants rather than worry about them.”

Equipped with its fresh capital, SmartyPlants plans to invest in product development and expanding the reach of its product throughout the U.K. and internationally.
