BT Group, a provider of fixed and mobile telecommunications solutions, announced the opening of its flagship office in Manchester. The milestone is part of the London-based company’s Better Workplace program, a five-year effort to consolidate its U.K. office spaces from 300 to 30 key locations.
BT Group offers secure digital products alongside managed telecommunications, security and network and IT infrastructure services. Serving customers across 180 countries, the company develops solutions for individuals and families as well as companies and public services. It also operates Openreach, a subsidiary wholesaler of fixed-access infrastructure services.
The company’s Better Workplace program includes more than 1.2 million square feet of new office space in addition to 1 million square feet of refurbished space in cities like Belfast, Doncaster, Glasgow and Newcastle. Its new Manchester office, Four New Bailey, is situated on the River Irwell and will accommodate 2,000 employees. The space features up-to-date technology and offers a rooftop terrace view.
This office replaces BT Group’s previous location in Deansgate and complements its additional North West offices in Liverpool, Accrington and Warrington. The company employs more than 9,500 people across the North West England, counting over 69,700 employees in total.
“We’ve invested heavily to provide best-in-class office spaces for our people across the country, reflecting how critical we are to every region of the U.K.,” Allison Kirkby, CEO of BT Group, said in a statement. “The broader economic effect from our offices, our people and our spend with U.K. suppliers is worth £23 billion to the nation’s economy, and beyond our own people, we support around 212,000 jobs in the wider U.K. economy.”
