You'll be responsible for designing, implementing and reviewing content of varying types for Old School RuneScape. In this role you'll focus on technical implementation and prototype exploration. In addition to technical implementation, you'll consider the gameplay and end-user experience of your work as well your own content, You'll also be responsible for coordinating technical projects across the team.
What you'll be doing:
- Design and coordinate new, engaging game content suitable for Old School RuneScape. You will take the lead on design for full projects of any complexity, delivering a design that fits our goals, lays strong technical foundations and unites your peers behind it.
- Coordinate and contribute to the implementation of game content using our in-house scripting language, RuneScript. You will be provided with full training in RuneScript as required.
- Together with the lead technical designer, you will responsibility for the technical standards of content, ensuring it is both technically sound and efficient.
- Determine the right ideas to move forward with and present these ideas to the team and work with game server engineers to implement them.
- Oversee the creation, standards and maintenance of technical design documents.
- Actively seek to improve the technical capabilities of the entire design team.
- Act as a go-to technical resource that other designers can lean on for technical help and advice.
- Continuously improve your knowledge of Old School RuneScape through your own research and utilising the knowledge of the wider team. This should inform your design and development decisions.
- Ensure design has a strong relationship with other disciplines including game engineers, graphics, QA and audio.
- Identify opportunities to and seek to create tools which aid your own workflow and that of members of the team.
- Occasionally engage with the community via social media and livestreams with the assistance of our Community Management team.
What you need:
- Strong Technical experience with Scripting or Programming. This will be required to get to grips with our in-house scripting language, RuneScript.
- Strong experience of LUA, Python or similar scripting language.
- A pro-active work ethic who can take on problem solving, without being afraid of the challenge.
- An ability to guide, mentor and inspire other creative people.
- An understanding of MMORPGs, their internal structures and systems.
- A passion for games and a desire to breakdown designs and discuss with others.
- Experience working in a game design or development team and can demonstrate an understanding of game development processes such that you can guide improvements to our own development environment.
- An understanding and ability to utilise version control software, like Perforce.
