We are looking for an experienced Principal Product Compliance Expert (d/f/m) to join our Compliance Center of Excellence for Germany. The Product Compliance Expert needs to be the Subject Matter Expert (SME) in terms of the product they are responsible for, fostering a strong relationship with product teams as well as customer-facing teams, being at the intersection between compliance and product.
This position will work closely with other Compliance SMEs, Product, Engineering, Design, and Payroll Operations as well as other stakeholders within Personio to drive success.
Role Responsibilities: What you'll do
This position can be office-based or fully remote from one of the following countries: Germany. Exceptions can be discussed on an individual basis.
Strategic Planning and Execution:

  • Plan and execute compliance roadmaps, taking accountability for achieving key results (KRs) within the payroll domain.
  • Understand and represent complex business requirements in strategic discussions with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Deliver high-quality solutions on complex roadmaps, simplifying objectives for efficient technical execution.


Regulatory Leadership:

  • Serve as a recognized leader in identifying upcoming regulatory changes, particularly in wage tax, assessing their full impact on all products.
  • Proactively provide necessary requirements to inform roadmaps, including best practices and potential workarounds.
  • Take accountability for key compliance problems, driving business outcomes by defining requirements, identifying blockers, and addressing product gaps.


Leadership and Collaboration:

  • Create a high-performing team environment by promoting productivity and efficiency.
  • Actively resolve cross-team tradeoffs and represent the team's work clearly in larger presentations and senior leadership reviews.
  • Motivate and influence colleagues across related teams to foster alignment and ownership.


Mentorship and Development:

  • Onboard and mentor team members from L3 to L5B across teams and functions.
  • Strengthen team culture and identify opportunities for development within and across teams.
  • Act as an agent of positive change, ensuring productive collaboration.


Process Optimization:

  • Improve speed of execution and productivity by optimizing team practices and processes.
  • Conduct workshops to streamline processes and improve outcomes.


Data Analysis and Risk Management:

  • Utilize data analysis to support compliance decisions and enhance product development.
  • Assess and manage compliance risks, proposing mitigation strategies to ensure robust product offerings.


Stakeholder Engagement and Training:

  • Engage with stakeholders to gather requirements and provide compliance solutions.
  • Provide training and support to teams, ensuring understanding of compliance and business processes.


Role Requirements: What you need to succeed
Experience and Skills:

  • Extensive knowledge of German wage tax and payroll compliance, with at least 7-10 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong product sense with proven experience in influencing product development through compliance insights.
  • Experience working with product and engineering teams in a complex, compliance-heavy environment.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills in both German and English.
