About the role

We're the UK's leading automotive online marketplace and a great place to take your career to the next level. In this role as a Principal Data Analyst, you will be an analytics senior leader, you will set the agenda for analytics at Auto Trader, identify the future needs of the business to meet our company objectives and shape the teams that will deliver this. 

Our Operation Leadership Team has set a strategy that prioritises our core business of being the best online advertising service in the UK, that our approach is to build a data and technology platform that underpins the automotive industry.

You will collaborate with other senior leaders to identify the right analytics strategy to help fulfil this overall business strategy so that we can prioritise where our effort be best spent. You will take responsibility for the delivery of analytics within the business based on the needs that you help.

Career development is something that we're passionate about at Auto Trader. In addition to skill sharing and coaching, line managing other Data Analysts, you will also identify opportunities to offer training to the broader business to help those in other roles improve their understanding of analytics skills such as data modelling or statistics. You will encourage Data Analysts to practice their presentation skills and raise awareness of analytics in progress showcases.

For your own development goals, as well as keeping up to date with advances in analytics, there are also opportunities to improve your management and leadership skills. Our Mentorship program also gives leaders of teams the support needed to become leaders in the wider business.

What we're looking for

We are looking to grow our diverse team of curious data analysts. In your application you should demonstrate:

  • A deep understanding of how data should be used to answer business questions, including how it is collected, transformed, scheduled and monitored
  • Experience of identifying where and how statistics and machine learning should be applied to business problems  
  • Analytical expertise to embed best practices at a business level, and develop a business-wide culture of making decisions and products led by science.
  • Experience orchestrating projects and roadmaps in agile cross-functional teams
  • Expertise in the many facets of data analytics, particularly statistical inference and modelling, data modelling, programming (e.g. Python, R), storytelling and critical thinking
  • Familiarity with data science methods, such as machine learning
  • Confidence developing analysts in all stages of their career and fostering a collaborative environment where they can thrive
  • Experience as a Senior or Principal Data Analyst (or similar role) in a commercial environment

It would also be beneficial (but not essential) if you have:

  • Experience with our technology stack
  • Experience managing or developing Data Analysts

We’re offering a salary of £60,000 – £80,000, plus an additional 10% of your salary awarded to you in shares each year. These awarded shares will become yours in yearly instalments over the next three years, and you can choose to either sell them or keep them as shares. And you'll receive 29 days holiday, plus bank holidays and comprehensive private medical cover.
