Design Research Intern - Packaging Consumer Experience
Start date: February 2026
Duration: 6 months
Allowance: 625 euro per month (40hrs, 5 days) & full reimbursement of travel expenses

Basic Requirements for all:
• You should have strong communication skills and fluency in English, both written and verbal (Dutch is not a requirement but other languages are a plus)
• You are enrolled at a university for at least 50% study load for the duration of the internship.
• Non - EU Students: Need to be enrolled at a Dutch University for the whole duration of the internship.
• NOTE: EU working rights are required (Either you have EU Citizenship, you are studying in the Netherlands or have relevant student work visa)
About the role
We are looking for a Design Research Intern to support our Packaging Consumer Experience (CX) team in exploring how consumers interact with packaging - from usability and design appeal to emotional connection and benefit perception. You'll work alongside pack technologists, consumer researchers, and innovation managers to translate human insights into design opportunities that shape the future of packaging.
Assignment and key activities:
• Support the planning and execution of qualitative and quantitative consumer research (in-home tests, shop-alongs, interviews, and usability tests).
• Assist in designing research tools such as discussion guides, stimuli, moodboards, and experience prototypes.
• Help capture, analyse, and synthesise consumer insights into actionable frameworks and storytelling visuals.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Design, R&D, Marketing, and Sustainability) to inform packaging innovation projects.
• Contribute to trend and competitor analysis on packaging experience, sustainability, and design language.
• Prepare presentations, reports, and visual summaries for internal stakeholders to communicate findings clearly and persuasively.
Specific Team Requirements:
• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's in Design Research, Industrial Design, Consumer Psychology, Service Design, or a related field.
• Strong interest in human-centered design, packaging, and sustainability.
• Basic understanding of research methodologies (qualitative and quantitative).
• Skilled in tools such as Miro, Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, or Notion for visual documentation and analysis.
• Excellent communication and storytelling skills - both visual and verbal.
• Curious, proactive, detail-oriented, and passionate about understanding human behaviour through design.
