Team overview

Ofcom’s mission is to make communications work for everyone. We are looking for an experienced communications campaigns manager to help plan and oversee campaigns which support Ofcom’s work in online safety.

Ofcom is the regulator for the communications services that we use and rely on each day. We regulate services from phone and broadband to TV and radio, airwaves and the postal service. And, crucially for this role, we’ve taken on new duties to make online services safer for everyone. It’s important work on behalf of

people across the UK.

The industries Ofcom regulates are evolving fast, making this an exciting time to join our team. High-quality, reliable communications services have never mattered more to people’s lives, and making the online world safer is a generational task. The Communications Campaigns Manager sits in Ofcom’s fast-paced, welcoming and expert Communications Department – previously judged by PR Week as the best place to work in-house in the UK.

You’ll be bringing a wide range of people on board, and you’ll be central to how we communicate vital information to the public about online safety.

  • Project-manage the campaign plan, setting milestones and helping to hold teams to account formeeting them.

  • Manage the relevant budget, ensuring all activities – including partnerships work – are appropriately resourced.

  • Work with our Insights and Evaluation Lead to ensure that measurement is at the heart of the campaign, including testing different approaches and adapting our messages or channels in response to the data.

  • Work with Research colleagues to consider new ways to measure the effectiveness of the online safety programme.

  • Work with the Online Safety Supervision and Enforcement teams to provide foresight of industry developments that demonstrate change is happening.

  • Initiate and manage third-party relationships necessary to deliver the campaign, such as schools outreach.

  • Work closely with the Communications Partnerships Manager, who will be building relationships with third-party ambassadors and spokespeople who can reach new audiences on the subject of online safety.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

In your 200-400 word covering note, please demonstrate your experience working in or deep understanding of the Online Safety field along with how you meet the rest of the essential criteria listed below:

  • Significant experience in outward-facing media relations or digital communications role(s), ideally with an emphasis on proactive campaigns and strategic communications.

  • Executing Plans: Strong organisational or project-management skills, with a thorough approach to delivery and enthusiasm for managing projects and ensuring that milestones are met.
