Systems Engineer – Optical Network Presales

Hybrid – working in the London City Road Office 2-3 days per week EC1Y 1AA
The SE is the primary technical resource for the regional Sales manager. Responsible for actively driving and managing the technology proposition and evaluation stage of the sales process, working in conjunction with the sales team as the key technical advisor and product advocate for the Infinera product portfolio. The Systems Engineer must be able to articulate technology and product positioning to both business commercial and technical customers. Must be able to establish and maintain strong relationships throughout the sales cycle maintaining senior level relationships.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities:
- Responsible for managing technical demonstrations and lab trials
- Responsible for development and delivery of technical product presentations / demonstrations;
- Responsible for designing networks to customer requirements, using tools and producing BOQs and other technical supporting documents
- Supporting marketing activities by attending trade shows, conferences and other marketing events;
- Able to respond to functional and technical elements of RFIs/RFPs
- Able to convey customer feature requirements to corporate Product Line Management teams;
- Producing customer orderable quotations;
- Provide after-sales support services;
- Liaising with other members of the sales team and other technical experts;
Specific Job Skills
- Engineering Degree or equivalent.
- Experience in the telecommunications industry, with either a Networking vendor or Tier 1 carrier.
- Experience on classical and disaggregated Photonic/DWDM/OTN Systems, Control Plane and the different optical network architectures
- Experience with architecting both terrestrial (Edge to Core) and Subsea
- Good understanding of pluggables standards
- Sound working experience of Packet/Optical Networks and packet transport architectures, Layer 3 & 2 and all IP related technology stacks (Control, Data and Management Planes). Including IP Routing techniques, MPLS (LER / LSR), Segment Routing, EVPN, IPv6
Network Management
- Good understanding of multi-vendors & multi-technologies network orchestration.
- Strong knowledge of telecoms management systems and familiarity with open interfaces such as RESTCONF, NETCONF, etc…
Experience with
- Experience with Mobile network back/front hauling optical solutions
- Experience with optical enterprise solutions
- Experience with Data Center connectivity trends and requirements
- Strong understanding of regional OTTs business and connectivity needs
Other Skills
- Possess a strong ability to turn concepts through the design cycle including solution development and cost modelling
- Experience with large multi-national and tier one telco's with strong senior level relationships.
- Experience with indirect partner sales in MEA region
- Strong working relations with regional SPs and Enterprises is a solid advantage.
- Position requires travelling 50% of the time across and outside the region.
Qualifications
Ideal candidate must be self-motivated with a proven track record in system engineering and possess a strong knowledge of DWDM technology. The candidate must also be comfortable in the dynamic atmosphere of a technical sales organization with a rapidly expanding customer base. Must possess strong presentation skills and be able to communicate professionally in written responses to emails, RFP’s and when submitting reports. Must also be organized, analytical and able to eliminate obstacles through creative and adaptive approaches.
