We are seeking a Software Engineer to join the team responsible for the tools packaged with the Couchbase NoSQL database, Couchbase Server. These tools include our enterprise-grade backup solution that can manage multiple terabytes of data. They will also have an opportunity to work on novel projects that enhance our customers' data lifecycle. The team predominantly uses the Go programming language.

The engineer will work out of the Couchbase Manchester Office for at least 3 days a week, within a small team of highly skilled engineers. For this reason, the role is open only to those who are willing to commute into Manchester.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the tools component by writing, testing, and reviewing code, following guidance from senior engineers.
  • Collaborate closely with other developers to understand requirements, clarify tasks, and work towards team objectives. This includes investigating issues raised by the Customer Support team and addressing bugs raised by the Quality Engineering team
  • Continuously expand knowledge of new technologies, tools, and methodologies relevant to the tech stack to enhance skillset and support project needs.
  • Follow best practices of software development, including adhering to the coding standard, documenting code and writing in-depth bug reports to ensure clarity and maintain project transparency. Provide regular progress updates and utilize version control systems to track changes and uphold code consistency.

Requirements:

  • First Class graduate in Computer Science or closely related STEM discipline.
  • Proficient in at least one programming language, such as C, Go, or Java.
  • Enthusiastic and inquisitive, with a constant willingness to learn.

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with performance profiling and low-level debugging
  • Good understanding of distributed systems, e,g, consensus protocols, synchronization primitives
  • Significant presence on github, gitlab or similar.
  • Contributed to one or more open source projects.
