Department Overview
The Motorola Solutions Glasgow software development centre is leading development of mobile workflow solutions for the MSI Response & Reporting organization.
As a key part of this process we are developing CommandCentral Responder, a new solution, running on Android, iOS and Windows, that provides Record Management, Search and Command & Control capability integrating through the cloud-based CommandCentral Suite and to Motorola Solutions' On-Premise RMS & CAD systems.
Job Description

This role is fully remote.

The CC Responder iOS team are developing an application, in use by multiple US law enforcement agencies, which supports:

  • Searching - searching RMS, state & federal systems for people, vehicles etc

  • Form capture - capturing & completing data on handheld devices for a range of processes including citation, field interview, incident record.

  • Command & Control - viewing & updating CAD data from the handheld application

  • Mapping - viewing search, form & other data on an interactive mobile map

  • Evidence gathering - via notes, photo, video and audio files
     

The solution is configurable and downloads spec that defines the complete application behaviour allowing provision of solutions with distinct behaviour for different customers (e.g. different forms or searching different state systems). The application integrates with services developed by the CommandCentral Responder Cloud services team, which further integrate with other parts of the CommandCentral ecosystem.

Working as a software engineer in an agile Scrum team you will be involved in: 

  • Working with other teams across Motorola Solutions to integrate CommandCentral iOS application with other Motorola Solutions software components, creating a richer, more powerful integrated solution. 

  • Working on the full software development life cycle for the application - including design, development, testing and documentation.

  • Continuing to support our existing customers, adapting the product to meet their evolving needs.


Basic Requirements

Core Competencies:

  • Proven ability to work as part of an agile software development team.

  • Proven ability to work in a relatively autonomous environment.

  • Proven ability to learn new technologies quickly.

  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.

  • Analytical / problem solving abilities.

  • Ability to critically review work done.

  • Attention to detail.

Academic and Technical Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of relevant industry experience, ideally working on an iOS application, and ONE of the following:

    • A formal qualification (Degree) in Computing Science or related subject. 

    • Have completed a suitable coding boot-camp or similar training course.

    • If self-taught, be able to provide evidence of ability such as a portfolio or verifiable significant contributions to open-source projects.

Technical expertise, experience and knowledge:

  • Experience of development of complex mobile apps for iOS

  • Demonstrated experience with industry best-practices, including Agile methodologies, test driven development and code reviews.

  • Experience contributing to the design and implementation of large pieces of reliable, scalable complex software.

  • Building efficient iOS user interfaces to a specification

  • Experience with a range of the following:

    • Core Data 

    • Use of REST services, JSON, etc

    • SwiftUI & UIKit

    • Writing unit tests, instrumented tests, UI tests

    • Use of Azure DevOps or Github, including CI tools (pipelines, actions, etc.)

  • Familiarity with some of the following would be beneficial:

    • AVFoundation

    • Web sockets (e.g. Starscream)

    • Mapping (e.g. ArcGIS)

    • WebRTC

    • OpenAPI

    • Standard Git workflows
