Kaluza is the Energy Intelligence Platform, turning energy complexity into seamless coordination. We help energy companies overcome today’s challenges while accelerating the shift to a clean, electrified future.

Our platform orchestrates millions of real-time decisions across homes, devices, markets and grids. By combining predictive algorithms with human-centred design, Kaluza makes clean energy dependable, affordable and adaptive to everyday life.

With teams across Europe, North America, Asia and Australia, and a joint venture with Mitsubishi Corporation in Japan, we power leading companies including OVO, AGL and ENGIE, as well as innovators like Volvo and Volkswagen.

At Kaluza we embrace a flexible, hybrid work model that balances autonomy with the power of in-person connection. Many of our teams find value in coming together regularly to collaborate, strengthen relationships, and accelerate progress. We’re focused on shaping thoughtful, team-driven approaches that support both business impact and individual well-being.

What will I be doing?

You’ll join the team building Kaluza’s Energy Retail platform, a SaaS product modernising how energy retailers operate globally.

This is a frontend focused role centred on large scale React applications used by both customers and internal teams. You’ll design, build, and evolve complex user interfaces that sit on top of high volume, distributed systems. The frontend is a critical part of how customers experience Kaluza’s platform, and engineering quality is a priority.

We’re looking for engineers who are comfortable owning significant areas of the frontend, contributing to technical decisions, and improving systems over time, not just delivering tickets.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver scalable frontend features using TypeScript and React.
  • Take ownership of frontend domains from discovery through release and ongoing improvement.
  • Contribute to architectural discussions and help shape patterns that support a growing codebase and contributor base.
  • Build and maintain shared tooling, components, and standards that enable consistency across teams.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers and designers to turn complex problems into intuitive user experiences.
  • Work with backend and platform engineers to ensure robust, well integrated solutions.
  • Write well tested, maintainable code and raise the bar through thoughtful code reviews.
  • Identify and address performance, scalability, and technical debt issues proactively.

About You

  • Professional experience building production frontend applications with TypeScript and React.
  • Strong understanding of component architecture, state management, and patterns for scaling React applications.
  • Experience delivering substantial features or systems with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Comfortable reasoning about performance, reliability, and long term maintainability.
  • Experience with end to end testing in modern frontend environments.
  • Confident collaborating across disciplines and contributing to technical discussions.
  • Motivated by solving real customer problems, not just shipping code.

Bonus: Experience with monorepo tooling such as Nx or Turborepo.

Our Interview Process

We run a transparent process designed to reflect the work you’d do here.

Initial Call with Talent Acquisition (30 minutes)

An introduction to Kaluza, the team, and your experience.

First Stage Interview (1 hour)

A technical and mindset discussion with a hiring manager, including a short live coding exercise.

Final Interview Loop (up to 3 hours total)

The final stage consists of three interviews. These are usually scheduled across multiple sessions, though we can accommodate completing them in a single day if you prefer.

  • Behavioural Interview
Focuses on collaboration, problem-solving, and how you deliver value for customers, using real examples from your experience.
  • System Design Interview
Explores how you approach complex, large-scale problems, such as designing scalable, reliable, and secure systems.
  • Pairing Interview
A collaborative session where you’ll work through a practical task with one of our engineers, focusing on problem-solving, clean code, and communication.
