Join us as a Senior Architect – Finance and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of finance technology at Nationwide Building Society. As part of our Finance and Treasury Value Stream, you’ll be at the heart of designing and delivering technology solutions that enable our Finance function to operate efficiently, accurately, and with agility.
In this role, you’ll define and maintain the target architecture and roadmap for Finance, ensuring that every solution aligns with our strategic objectives and delivers measurable business value. You’ll work closely with finance product owners, engineers, and delivery leads to translate business needs into innovative, scalable, and secure technology designs. Your expertise will help us modernise our platforms, optimise processes, and support millions of members with reliable financial services.
Beyond solution design, you’ll act as a trusted advisor and thought leader, influencing technology strategy across the organisation. You’ll lead proofs of concept to explore emerging technologies, assess their potential, and guide decision-making. As a people leader, you’ll coach and mentor other architects, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and technical excellence within the team.
This is a high-impact role where you’ll have the opportunity to shape how Nationwide manages its financial systems, from core ledger platforms to reporting and analytics capabilities. You’ll ensure our architecture supports regulatory compliance, operational resilience, and future growth, while embracing cloud technologies and modern engineering practices.
We’re looking for someone who combines deep technical knowledge with stakeholder engagement skills. You’ll need to be comfortable operating at both strategic and hands-on levels, influencing senior leaders while working closely with delivery teams. Experience in finance systems, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) platforms, or cloud-based solutions will be highly valuable.
At Nationwide, we value diversity, innovation, and collaboration. We’re committed to creating an inclusive environment where your ideas can make a real difference. If you’re passionate about technology and want to help shape the future of finance for one of the UK’s largest building societies, this is your chance to make an impact.
We are happy to consider flexible working approaches to help you perform at your best.
At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.
For this job you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part time you'll spend 40% of your working time, based at either our Swindon or London office. Whilst these locations are where we are primarily looking to fill the role, if you’re an internal applicant based in a different location we would welcome your application and if successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this could work for this specific role. You can also find out more about our approach to hybrid working here.
If we receive a high volume of relevant applications, we may close the advert earlier than the advertised date, so please apply as soon as you can.

Collaboration is key, so expect to work with engineers, testers, and delivery leads to bring innovative solutions to life.
