About the Role:

The Senior Product Manager is responsible for defining, evolving, and communicating the business value of Scholar Gateway. They own and drive specific areas of the Scholar Gateway roadmap, from problem definition through delivery and iteration. This includes product capabilities related to content ingestion and lifecycle management, helping define how scholarly content is structured and maintained to support AI-driven discovery. It also includes end-to-end workflows for onboarding publishing partners. 

The Senior Product Manager engages with a wide range of colleagues and stakeholders to ensure consistent alignment with customer needs. They partner closely with engineering to shape platform capabilities in areas where technical approaches and product expectations are still evolving. They use qualitative and quantitative inputs, including customer feedback, usage signals, and partner needs, to inform prioritization and decision-making. They contribute to demos, release notes, and documentation that support customer understanding and adoption. They partner with support and operational teams on issues that impact customers, to help ensure a smooth product experience. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintain advanced knowledge of Scholar Gateway and its infrastructure, to support colleagues, answer queries, and inform discovery and customer engagement efforts. 
  • Identify opportunities to evolve Scholar Gateway based on metrics analysis, market/competitor knowledge, and user research 
  • Lead on defining and driving specific areas of the Scholar Gateway roadmap, collaborating with engineering, business stakeholders, user research, marketing, and customer-facing colleagues as needed 
  • Identify needed, and contribute to, internal- and external-facing documentation that describes services and/or provides end-user support 
  • Lead on publisher pilot onboarding and production efforts, monitoring results, making recommendations, and collaborating with customer-facing colleagues 
  • Act as Scholar Gateway lead in cross-department projects, knowledge sharing, and customer experience improvement efforts 
  • Present Scholar Gateway in internal and external customer meetings (e.g. strategy meetings, publishing partner meetings) 
  • Partner with support and operational teams on issues that impact customers, helping troubleshoot, prioritize, and resolve as needed 

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience in the scholarly publishing industry 
  • Extensive product development experience 
  • Demonstrated ability to own and deliver discrete areas of a product roadmap, from discovery through execution 
  • Ability to lead without direct authority 
  • Strong product judgment and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and non‑technical teams 
  • Analytical and problem‑solving skills, with experience using data to inform prioritization and tradeoffs 
  • Experience working on technically complex, platform‑oriented products (e.g., APIs, services, integrations) 
  • Confidence working with AI‑enabled products and understanding, at a conceptual level, how modern AI systems use external content and data to inform responses 
  • Experience translating ambiguous problem spaces into clear product goals and phased delivery plans 
  • Uses best practices and knowledge of internal or external business issues to improve processes 
  • Solves complex problems; takes a new perspective using existing solutions 
  • Works independently, receives minimal guidance 
  • Versatile and action-oriented with a willingness to engage in change  
  • Ability to assess new processes and workflows and implement accordingly  
  • Excellent diplomacy and communication skills with proven track record of working across teams and departments 
  • Excellent teamwork skills 
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority 
  • Ability to take the lead on project work with members across functions of the business 
  • Ability to present to groups of experts including clients/customers

The range below represents Wiley's good faith and reasonable estimate of the base pay for this role at the time of posting roles in the United Kingdom, Canada, USA, Austria, Czechia, Denmark, France, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Romania, or Spain. It is anticipated that most qualified candidates will fall within the range, however the ultimate salary offered for this role may be higher or lower and will be set based on a variety of non-discriminatory factors, including but not limited to, geographic location, skills, and competencies.
