A Brief Overview

The Senior Financial Accountant, EMEA (Financial Operations) reports to the Senior Financial Manager, EMEA (Financial Operations) and supports the SOX compliant, end-to-end financial operations processes under US GAAP for EMEA business.

The position requires experience of and demonstrated ability for ensuring the successful, cross-functional delivery of the financial life cycle of reinsurance transactions.  This includes transaction initiation, ledger reconciliation and monthly financial reporting.

What you will do

  • Producing and reviewing manual journal entries for protection and financial solutions assumed and retro business not currently on administration systems.

  • Reviewing the validity, accuracy and completeness of financial reporting data populated from administration systems, including performing or reviewing reconciliations, and ensuring that key accounting controls and financial integrity are in place.

  • Driving adherence to group accounting policies and practices, including ensuring SOx compliance.

  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with EMEA Administration/ Operations/Valuation managers and providing accounting/financial support as required.

  • Compiling analysis files for review of treaty level results monthly and assisting Management to understand any significant or unusual movements.

  • Support annual audit process including managing and respond to auditors’ requests and queries.

  • Liaising with other internal teams, including Admin Operations and Valuation, fostering spirit of co-operation with all departments.

  • Applying a mindset of continuous improvement as pertains to all finance accounting and operations processes, while maintaining a risk management focus.

  • Supporting other relevant tasks or projects as directed by the Head of Financial Operations, EMEA, and others as required.

  • Ability to analyse the consistency of information between a variety of systems and the awareness to escalate issues to mitigate risk as they arise.

  • The ability to manage cross-functional deliveries to ensure the successful overall delivery of financial information on a timely basis.

  • Familiar with and comfortable working in complex matrix organisation.

  • Proactive in own development, passionate about developing others, willingness to embrace new concepts and challenges.

Education & Experience

Required

  • Chartered Accountant qualification with prior audit or financial control experience.

  • At least 5 years post-training experience within an insurance/reinsurance entity.

Preferred

  • Basic programming/automation experience (e.g. Alteryx, Power BI).

  • Microsoft Office skills including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Previous experience of using a reinsurance administration system.
