The role
The Senior Finance Manager is a Business Partner (BP) and is the Financial Lead for Business Unit (BU) and has full ownership of the BU P&L and the annual business plan. The BP is responsible for the delivery of accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with internal and regulatory standards. This is a varied role which requires strategic input into the Business Unit SLT as we as the ability to analyse data
What will you do?
- Provide strategic advice to the Executive manager of the BU, act as a trusted partner
- Ownership of BU P&L including bid costs and overheads
- Ownership and presentation of management report to the company Managing Director and Finance Director and Commercial Director bi monthly
- Accountable for the preparation of all monthly management reports and analysis including planning, budgeting, forecasting, Business Unit reporting, and operational reports for the use of the projects, the Financial Services division, Business Unit Leadership team, and Executive Leadership Team.
- Provide reconciliation and accurate variance analysis against budgets and forecasts.
- Review financial transactions, profit and turnover, cash balances and other financial results to ensure compliance with internal policies / procedures, and accounting standards.
- Work closely with project commercial team to understand key risks and opportunities and ensure clear, transparent, and accurate reporting up through the business.
- Ensure compliance to limits of authority.
- Provide strategic, financial, and commercial advice to the projects as and when required.
- Ensure data quality and integrity of output for monthly management reports, ad-hoc reports, and annual business plans.
- Identify and analyse any material exceptions to forecast / budget against actuals and prepare corresponding commentary for escalation to the Executive Leadership Team
- Carry out continuous improvement initiatives in relation to the accounting and reporting processes and systems, perform ad-hoc projects and tasks assigned from time to time as instructed by Line Manager, finance community, and Business Unit.
- Regular review of project positions via attendance at PID reviews to assess risks and opportunities and ensure they are understood and reported appropriately
- Review legacy projects ensuring any material risks are reported
- Review the financials for all new clients ensuring requirements for financial security are adequately reported to senior management
- Responsible for the preparation of all discreet reporting period obligations including preparation of accounting papers.
- Responsible for coordinating functional sign offs and integrity of investment papers.
- Maintain solid relationships with project teams and wider Finance community ensuring lines of communication are open and transparent
You will bring
Essential
- Qualified accountant (ACA or equivalent) with 5-7 years post qualification work experience
- Experience in Construction or related industry
- Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Suite.
Desirable
- Experience with TM1 / Cognos / Oracle R12 or similar financial & management accounting systems.
- Recent and relevant people management experience (or equivalent level of skill obtained through on the job training/experience).
