Location: Any Arqiva site (hybrid working), with occasional travel to Winchester, London or Huddersfield for team meetings.

Purpose
The Senior Engineer - Network & IP is responsible for maintaining, supporting and enhancing Arqiva's critical IP network infrastructure, ensuring the delivery of resilient, secure and high-performing services. The role provides technical leadership across operational support, network lifecycle management and project delivery, while driving continuous improvement, mentoring engineers and ensuring network solutions meet business, customer and regulatory requirements.
 

Accountabilities

  • Complete planned works and maintenance on the full range of systems and networks within the operating environment, providing leadership and guidance to upgrades and modifications,
  • Respond to faults and service outages and complete corrective maintenance in line with Arqiva standards, policies and procedures
  • Contribute to the delivery of projects through the provision of technical advice, installation and commissioning support and service transition, Implement upgrades and modifications to existing systems and networks
  • Provide full lifecycle management of network devices including reviewing and implementing network upgrades and decommissioning tasks.
  • Maintain accurate records, documents and reporting of actions taken. Complete testing and measurements to ensure compliance with regulatory, industry and customer requirements
  • Work with the Network Engineering teams to ensure that network solutions are transitioned into the live environment without issue and in line with all service requirements
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of operating policies, processes and procedures.
  • Engage with customers and build positive working relationships.
  • Supervise the delivery of 3rd party suppliers and contractors to ensure that specifications and standards meet Arqiva requirements
  • Drive innovation, both small and large, into and through the business; deploy and evidence with outcomes, a continuous improvement (CI) mind-set.
  • Bring a commercial perspective to the operation, with a particular focus on cash management, cash preservation and optimising returns on investments made in assets and tools.
  • Provide technical leadership within the team, sharing knowledge and skills and providing mentoring support to engineers and technicians
  • Maintain network designs ensuring accuracy in line with live networks, working in collaboration with Design, Product, Architecture and Security teams
  • Produce work instructions and other appropriate tools and materials to support service and technical delivery
  • Understanding of Datacentre technologies and AWS.
  • Understanding of automation.

Required Expertise

  • Significant experience in an operational network support role, with a proven track record of working on and troubleshooting complex, always on critical IP Networks
  • Excellent customer facing skills with the ability to take ownership of issues and drive to resolution.
  • Technically competent to challenge proposed solutions and designs identifying any risks and oversights with the ability to influence the designs/solution.
  • Excellent coaching and mentoring skills that will be used to increase the technical knowledge base of the team in new and emerging technologies
  • The ability to matrix work and lead technical personnel across multiple teams and remote locations
  • Ability to undertake continuous personal development, and to lead and direct engineers, to meet the technical requirements of future technologies and project deliverables.
  • Track record of working on and troubleshooting complex, always on critical IP Networks
  • Working knowledge of the design, development and testing of bespoke and COTS (Common off the Shelf) software/hardware for Broadcast, IP Network, IOT or corporate application depending on technical area of expertise.
  • Experience with processes, standards and engineering practices related to monitoring and controlling (M&C).

Required Technical skills

  • Experienced in troubleshooting complex IP Networks.
  • Experience of routing protocols including BGP, ISIS and OSPF
  • Experienced in the configuration and troubleshooting of MPLS and Multicast
  • Good knowledge of Cisco devices including IOS and IOS XE and IOS XR operating systems
  • Good knowledge of implementing and troubleshooting QOS on complex networks
  • Good understanding of security devices including firewall, threat and intrusion detection systems.
  • Good understanding of Data Centre network technologies and troubleshooting
  • A good understanding of network design and operation in a high threat environment.

Security Clearance is required
 

Qualifications: Either (A Higher Education or professional qualification in a relevant discipline) or relevant experience


Please note that the successful candidate will be required to successfully undergo UK Security Clearance and must have been resident within the UK for at least five years.
