We're the most trusted, most visited automotive marketplace in the UK. A heritage brand and a tech innovator. We bring together vehicle buyers and sellers to give them real choices. Cars may be what we're best known for but we’re also the place for pretty much everything else on wheels, from e-bikes to caravans.

In the automotive world, change is a constant, that’s why we take our job of untangling the complex car-buying journey very seriously.

At our core, we’re all about people. We go our own way while embracing diversity and celebrating our differences. We dedicate ourselves to the idea that we work better together.

Autotrader is a beautiful, surprising and vibrant place to work. We might not be for everyone, but we could be perfect for you.

About the job

Every week, millions of people use the Autotrader online marketplace. Our consumer experience isn’t just about finding a vehicle; it’s multi-faceted, allowing consumers to research, refine, and buy in one place. We are looking for a Senior Data Analyst with experience of complex consumer journeys to help us build and evolve our consumer products.

As a Senior Data Analyst, you will play a leading role in one of our consumer product teams, which centres around key parts of the consumer experience such as Search, Selling, CRM, and Marketing. Our teams are cross-disciplinary, so it’s highly collaborative; you’ll need to work closely with engineers, designers, and product leads.
Your responsibilities will include:

  • Establishing metrics for your product area using appropriate frameworks. Ensure governance through robust measurement and monitoring whilst aligning common definitions with Data Analysts in other teams
  • Leading the design of data products and collaborating with engineers on their implementation
  • Lead the definition and continuous improvement of tracking to ensure reliable measurement of user behaviour and product performance
  • Own experimentation programme outputs and partner with Design and User Research during early‑stage ideation.
  • Work closely and seamlessly with senior stakeholders across the business, challenging and influencing decisions through data-informed recommendations, particularly when evaluating product changes and identifying new opportunities for improvement.
  • As a leader in your team, be accountable for its success, champion the use of analytics and support other Data Analysts
  • Plan and prioritise the analytical components of projects and ensure clear communication with Analytics leadership and adjacent teams

Furthermore, as a valued member of our analytics community, you’ll play a key role in embedding Growth and Product Analytics principles, fostering a culture of evidence-led thinking and knowledge sharing across the discipline. You’ll drive this through impactful initiatives such as training, workshops, and the development of robust frameworks that enable consistent and scalable analytics practices.

What we're looking for
  • Someone who has proven experience working within consumer-facing product teams, and a good understanding of the differing analytical approaches we may use at each stage of the consumer’s lifecycle.
  • Experience overseeing experimentation programmes and practices that inform product or business decisions.
  • A good understanding of methods for statistical inference (e.g. Bayesian, Frequentist) and familiarity with predictive analytics techniques is highly beneficial.
  • Working knowledge of common analytics tools used for tracking and analysing user behaviour, such as Google Analytics or similar platforms.
  • The ability to articulate complex analytical solutions to stakeholders and influence them
  • Experience in planning and delivering analytical projects in a cross-functional environment.
  • Demonstrable experience in mentoring and leading other analysts towards collective goals.
  • Proficiency in SQL and Python, coupled with knowledge of ETL processes and foundational data engineering principles.

During our application process, you will be asked two questions to help us learn more about you and how you align with our values. These will be used as part of our selection criteria, to determine if we progress your application further.

Benefits

We’re offering a salary of £50,000 – £70,000 for the Senior Data Analyst role, plus an additional 10% of your salary awarded to you in shares each year. These awarded shares will become yours in yearly instalments over the next three years, and you can choose to either sell them or keep them as shares.

You'll have 28 days holiday per year, and that's in addition to bank holidays and half day closures on Christmas and New Year's Eve.

That’s not all. You'll be enrolled in our pension scheme, where our standard contributions are 7% and employee contributions are 5%. We also have comprehensive private medical cover, enhanced family leave provisions, a car salary sacrifice scheme, share-save options, and much more.

We always want to give you the support you need and help prioritise your wellbeing, that’s why we provide access to 24/7 online GP and dentist, as well as specialist support for assisted fertility, gender dysphoria, menopause, period care plans and lots more.

On top of all that, our hybrid model, Connected Working, combines the best of both worlds – office and home working. You'll spend a minimum of 3 days a week in the office with your team, focused on collaboration and connection.

Additionally, we have our remote-first periods at set times during summer and winter. During these periods, you can work remotely anywhere in the UK and from certain locations abroad.
