Senior Backend Engineer / Tech Lead

Job Overview:

InVitro Capital is seeking an innovative and strategic Senior Backend Engineer (Tech Lead ) with deep expertise in Java, Spring Boot, Python, cloud-native architectures, and AI-powered development to guide our backend engineering efforts.  As a Senior Backend Engineer, you’ll design and build scalable, high-performance backend systems to power our applications. You’ll work with modern technologies and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver robust solutions. You’ll guide your team of engineers, ensuring the successful delivery of complex projects while shaping the technical direction of our innovative ventures. Work setup: Monday to Friday, Pacific Time Zone. This is a hybrid position; team members are expected to work from our Cairo office at least once a week for in-person collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead with Vision: Guide and mentor backend engineers to deliver end-to-end solutions that meet product goals, quality standards, and performance targets.
• Architect Scalable Systems: Design and implement secure, modular architectures—ranging from high-concurrency APIs and data pipelines to enterprise-grade microservices.
• Drive AI-Enhanced Development: Integrate and champion AI tools (e.g., Cursor, GitHub Copilot) to streamline coding workflows, automate repetitive tasks, and uphold code quality.
• Enforce Best Practices: Establish and promote clean-code guidelines, robust testing strategies, and scalable design patterns across teams.
• Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner with product managers, frontend engineers, designers, and QA to deliver reliable, production-ready solutions.
• Solve High-Impact Challenges: Troubleshoot and resolve critical system issues hands-on, ensuring optimal performance and uptime.
• Advocate DevOps Excellence: Oversee CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, cloud deployments, and observability standards.
• Shape Technical Strategy: Contribute to long-term engineering roadmaps, evaluate new technologies, define automation opportunities, and influence product direction.

Minimum Qualifications:

• 10+ years of professional software development experience
• 3+ years of experience managing engineering teams as a Tech Lead or Manager
• Expert-level proficiency with Spring Boot and Java-based frameworks
• Practical experience using Python in backend services
• Strong command of system design, API development, relational and NoSQL databases, and performance tuning
• Proven track record designing and deploying scalable microservices and distributed architectures
• Hands-on experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure, including CI/CD implementation
• Demonstrated use of AI-assisted development tools in production workflows
• History of mentoring engineers, conducting architecture/design reviews, and driving team alignment
• Deep understanding of automation, scripting, and AI-enhanced system design
• Background in AI, machine learning, or data-driven applications

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience integrating Spring AI, LangChain, or CrewAI into backend services
• Familiarity with advanced DevOps practices and additional AWS services (Lambda, ECS/EKS, CloudFormation)
• Contributions to open-source projects or a robust GitHub portfolio
• Comfort working in a startup or high-growth environment
