Senior Backend Engineer - Grafana IRM (Remote, EMEA)

This is a remote opportunity and we would be interested in applications from EMEA time zones.

What we do:

We’re responsible for our IRM solutions that aim to make it easy to detect, respond, and learn from incidents with minimal effort. This includes our OnCall Cloud offering, our Incident Cloud offering, and our IRM mobile application.

We’re a cross-functional team that works closely with Product, Design, and Documentation to define our goals and build our solutions. We embrace experimentation, lean principles, and encourage everyone to share their ideas and perspectives.

What you’ll work on:

  • Coding new features, enhancing the operational experience of the systems you develop, and iteratively improving them based on production insights.
  • Contributing to and reviewing design documents.
  • Taking an active role in shaping the team’s roadmap.
  • Collaborating with different teams across the organization.
  • Owning the experience of our customers by participating in weekday 12h x 5d and a separate weekend 24h x 2d on-call rotations.

This role and team are a good fit for you if:

  • You are comfortable working in a remote-first company and understand the importance of communication.
  • You enjoy working as a team. For us, working together means being collaborative, friendly, kind, and respectful. We support each other, defaulting to mentoring and teaching.
  • You have solid experience as a Software Engineer building full stack applications. Ideally, you feel comfortable working with either Golang or Python and React.
  • You know how to transform ideas into working code – you are able to design a solution, get feedback, and write a prototype by yourself.
  • You enjoy learning, growing, and supporting others to do the same.
  • You care deeply about user experience and the quality of the products that you work on.
  • You enjoy working on complex solutions – Grafana is a highly technical solution and has avid followers who rely on it every day and care deeply about their workflows.
  • You care and value code maintainability, readability and testing.

You have experience with developing software that runs in the Cloud or some experience with systems engineering

  • You understand the implications of technical decisions, how they’ll affect the codebase and the team.
  • You enjoy being part of the community. Community is part of our core, and interacting with the community is a day-to-day thing for us, whether that community is internal or external.
  • You are able to communicate clearly in written and spoken English.

What we use

The purpose of this section is to give a sampling of the technologies that are currently in use by this squad (and the projects with which we interact). Experience with the entirety of these technologies should not be seen as a requirement. It is more important to recognize the purpose of these tools, and possess the experience / ability to learn how to apply (or interact with) them effectively where appropriate.

  • Backend technologies: Strong expertise in Golang or Python and familiarity with other backend languages is valued. Experience with Django is a plus.
  • Containerization and orchestration: Docker, Kubernetes.
  • CI/CD and DevOps: Knowledge of building pipelines, automated testing, and deployment strategies.
  • Monitoring and observability: Familiarity with tools like Grafana, Prometheus, or other observability platforms.
  • Frontend technologies (nice to have): TypeScript, React, Mobx, and Webpack.

In the UK, the Base compensation range for this role is £89,083 - £111,354. Actual compensation may vary based on level, experience, and skillset as assessed in the interview process. Benefits include equity, bonus (if applicable) and other benefits listed here.
