Job Overview
Applied Systems, Inc., a worldwide leader in insurance technology, is currently searching for a Senior Cloud Engineer on our Cloud Services Team. The Senior Cloud Engineer works as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) within the Cloud Services team. They are responsible for testing, planning, implementing, managing, and maintaining Windows and Linux based applications within the Applied Cloud, including all Applied BMS, extended products, and Microsoft SQL Server, and various technologies. You enjoy thinking through a problem and troubleshoot technical issues. In addition, you have experience working with teams cross functionally to get the work done. The SME must effectively communicate and collaborate with internal stakeholders including Data Centre Infrastructure Engineers and Applied Development teams to create optimal cloud environments and configurations for Applied Cloud products
What You'll Do
- Experience with Git, CI/CD Pipelines, Scripting languages (Terraform/Ansible/Python/Typescript)
- Strong foundation in server and network performance monitoring and troubleshooting
- Test, plan, implement, manage, and maintain a complex environment
- of applications in the Applied Cloud.
- Analyse Microsoft Windows, Linux systems, and applications to determine effectiveness and inefficiencies making written recommendations for improvements as needed.
- Construct and maintain documented standards for applications and server functional roles.
- Work closely with Cloud Services engineers; participate in the planning, implementation, and maintenance of the server application layer leveraging virtualization and/or automation where possible.
- Participate in application testing following maintenance that may have affected the performance or functionality of an application.
- Participate in the on-call rotation schedule.
- Ability to work after hours and weekends when required and/or necessary
- Analyze development issues to determine whether if they caused by application defects and make corrections/recommendations as needed.
- Define and implement best practices for disaster recovery.
- Construct and implement programmatic solutions to help streamline application workflows and automate repeatable tasks via Ansible and Python scripting playbooks.
- Develop and document workflows/procedures used by all Cloud Services staff when assisting customers.
- Create and maintain accurate reusable implementation, validation, and any other related Cloud Services documentation used for change or configuration process management.
- Identify, communicate, and help to implement improvements in the work process for customers and peers.
What You'll Need to Succeed
We're looking for someone who:
- Ability to work 100% remotely, or from an Applied Systems office.
Your experience should include some or all of the following:
- 5+ years directly related work experience and/or an equivalent combination
- Work experience supporting Microsoft Windows (Required) and Linux (Preferred) based operating systems and applications.
- Strong foundation in Microsoft Windows 2016/2019 and Linux operating systems
- Proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server 2016/2017/2019, as well basic understanding of OLTP workloads.
- Proficient scripting in Python, Microsoft PowerShell and SQL.
- Strong foundation in application performance management and troubleshooting
