Project Revenue Accounting Manager

Azenta Life Sciences is the global leader in automated cold chain sample logistics management for drug discovery and biostorage applications and holds its manufacturing center of excellence in Manchester. The Project Revenue Accounting Manager is key to the business and will be responsible for the accounting of the profit and loss account and balance sheet of all key customer projects. 

Role Purpose:

Responsible for provision of accounting of long term and short-term manufacturing, software, and service contracts with customers.

Drawing up cost and revenue forecasts for contracts based on inputs from project management.

Reviewing and monitoring performance of contracts.

Recognising revenue on contracts in line with US and UK GAAP. 

Documenting and providing a clear audit trail for the accounting of existing projects. 

In connection with Project Management team, monitor and report on project financials.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Account for key customer projects for Sample Management Solutions.
  • Derive a reliable and accurate monthly forecast of costs and revenues for customer contracts. 
  • Control project spend particularly engineering projects.
  • Be the point of contact within the division on the accounting for all key contracts. 
  • Update the documentation on the current and proposed treatment of project accounting. 
  • Reconcile the WIP, deferred revenue, stock and long-term debtors’ accounts.
  • Work with the project team in recognizing revenues and costs in line with US and UK GAAP.
  • Maintain the spreadsheet which provides data in a tidy and easy to read format which allows a reviewer to readily conclude on the implications of transactions.
  • Draft monthly management accounts showing the progress of each project and potential risks to success and changes from one month to the next. 
  • Draft a monthly rolling forecast for all contracts. Account for billings, bookings and backlog across the division. 
  • Work with outside accountants in drafting the statutory accounts of UK entities. 

Authority:

  • The role holder is responsible for prioritising their workload and organising their own day, which may vary considerably in tasks depending upon business demands at the time. The role holder will maintain regular contact with the European Financial Controller, Director of Project Management, and individual Project Managers.

Team

This role with oversee and manage a small team responsible for the accounting in the general ledger, leases accounting. account for VAT, submit Vat returns and provide evidence to support a reclaim for VAT, unvouchered receipts, freight accruals, sundry debtors and government statistics for the entity.

Communications:

  • The role holder will communicate internally with staff at all levels, including directors of the business and particularly the engineering and project management department. 
  • Liaison with accounting firms, banks and auditors as required

What You’ll Bring

Experienced in drawing up project accounts under the rules of long term contract accounting. 

Proficient in Excel and in building spreadsheets to account for contracts 

Qualified Accountant ideally ACA

Experience in ERP systems, Oracle Cloud a plus or SAP.

Experience in reporting under UK and US GAAP.

The job may require some travel around Europe and to the United States of America on occasions
