An Introduction to Primer

We’re the world's first unified payment infrastructure, empowering businesses worldwide to unleash their payment potential. By choosing our platform, merchants can take control over their payment stack, create unique commerce experiences, accelerate their roadmap and increase payment success. We strive to make something complex, incredibly simple and intuitive. The world's top investors, including Accel, Balderton, Iconiq, and Tencent, have invested in Primer's vision to rebuild payments and commerce from the ground up.

Join us in shaping the future of payments and commerce.

Which team will you be joining?

In 'Accept' we build a foundation of seamless, scalable, and reliable payments - across any provider, method, or market.

This team covers: Primer Checkout, Payment Processing, Payments API, Tokenization, BIN Data, 3D Secure, Developer Tools, Public Docs, Payment List & Timeline, Loyalty & Workflows Engine

🔍 What will the role involve?
  • Independently diagnose and solve complex operational problems by synthesising delivery data, team feedback, and product context

  • Own a defined operating remit that persists across quarters, such as planning cadence, delivery metrics, decision forums, or tooling strategy

  • Design scalable systems and processes that reduce toil and unlock leverage for the product team, anticipating second order effects and dependencies

  • Lead multiple high impact operational initiatives with measurable improvements to team velocity, decision speed, or process efficiency

  • Exercise judgment on which problems to solve versus defer, escalating when solutions affect other teams or require leadership alignment

  • Plan and deliver operating initiatives end to end within your remit, working in short cycles while maintaining a 3 to 6 month view

  • Orchestrate several concurrent initiatives across multiple sub areas, making real time trade offs and sequencing decisions to hit critical deadlines

  • Design and implement new processes that improve execution consistency or velocity, accountable for sustained adoption not just initial rollout

👀 What are we looking for?
  • Anticipate risks and adapt execution when priorities shift, fixing broken processes rather than working around them

  • Balance speed and rigor based on context, incorporating learnings to continuously improve processes

  • Evaluate and implement new tools independently, partnering effectively with engineering and data teams on integration and adoption

  • Apply strong data fluency to build analytical models that surface insights and leading indicators, using data to assess impact and guide iteration

  • Build deep expertise in specific operational areas, becoming a go to resource for your team

  • Design operating systems that teams rely on, validated through usage and measurable outcomes, automating repetitive tasks to reduce toil

  • Influence product priorities and team decisions through data driven insights and clear operational narratives

  • Build trust across functions through consistency and follow through, operating independently while surfacing risks with clear options and recommendations

🚫 You may not like it here if:
  • You enjoy working in an office-setting, we are remote-first and always will be!

  • You are not comfortable with shifting context and navigating ambiguity

  • You don’t enjoy testing your code, we have no testers or QA’s here at Primer

✅ Our interview process
  • 30 minute call with Talent Lead

  • 60 minute Team Interview with Head of Product

  • Take home task, followed by a 1 hour presentation with Product team members

  • 60 minute Primer Values interview with senior stakeholders

What’s life like at Primer?

We’ve been recognised as a top global employer, #1 in FinTech for ‘flexibility’!

We’re building a culture where people can come and do their best work and enjoy it. We want our people to be proud of the impact that they have at Primer, and of the work that they are doing. You will be working with a team of people who are mission-driven, smart, and reflective, and who are invested in building exceptional products and delivering success for our merchants (and we also know how to have fun along the way).

We work remotely. We believe that building a successful, profitable company goes beyond proximity. We invest in our relationships with each other through great remote working practices and thoughtfully designed face-to-face time together. Our heads-together time comes in the form of workstations, our annual company retreat, and co-working space access worldwide.

Finally, let’s go ahead and say it. The work that we do is challenging. Startups are a challenge, building category defining products is a challenge. You should be prepared for a challenge at Primer. But, there’s a big difference between a challenge and a struggle. The key difference is that the right challenge comes with the right support structures, an acceptance that not everything always goes to plan, a collaborative environment, and a great team around you. It’s never a challenge that you will face alone.
