👋 A little about us

We’re building -or trying to- the best platform for authoring, publishing, and maintaining world-class docs. Close to 40,000 sign-ups per month, over 100k Monthly Active Users, used by 2M+ people and thousands of teams like Zoom, FedEx, Nvidia, Snyk, and Google. We’re profitable, backed by P9 Capital, Notion Capital, and Fly VC, and our amazing team is spread across 15 countries in North America, Europe, and Asia.

🙌 Job overview

We’re looking for a Product Designer who embodies a high quality bar and brings a systems-thinking mindset to everything they do. You’ll help shape our product from top to bottom: from early concepts to pixel-perfect screens, from design systems to small front-end polish.

If you're a thoughtful generalist with great taste and the technical fluency to ship beautiful, functional interfaces, we’d love to meet you!

✍️ What you will be doing

  • Take full ownership of the visual and interaction design across GitBook’s product

  • Work hand-in-hand with Product, Engineering, and Marketing: from idea to execution

  • Contribute directly to the implementation of UI in our codebase (React, TypeScript, CSS)

  • Evolve and maintain GitBook’s Design System - ensuring visual consistency and a cohesive user experience

  • Translate insights and feedback into delightful, user-centered design decisions

  • Craft high-quality prototypes to explore and validate ideas

  • Partner with engineers to build polished, production-quality components and features

🫶You will be valued for

  • Design Taste & Craft You sweat the details. You design with care, from iconography and typography to motion and micro-interactions.

  • Full-Stack Design Thinking You move comfortably between UX flows, UI systems, and code. You care deeply about how things look, feel, and work.

  • Proactive Collaboration You share early and often, ask for feedback, and support your teammates. You don’t wait for permission, you lead with initiative.

  • Your technical experience You’re comfortable writing HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and ideally have some experience with React. You’re not expected to build entire features solo, but you can pair with engineers, open PRs, and speak their language.

  • Ownership & Curiosity You work autonomously and take pride in owning outcomes not just deliverables. You’re comfortable navigating ambiguity and learning as you go.

🏢 Your profile
  • 3+ years of experience in UI/UX or Product Design in product-led teams.

  • A portfolio that demonstrates high-quality product thinking and strong visual execution.

  • Experience working with or contributing to a Design System.

  • Strong communication skills: you can clearly explain your design rationale to non-designers.

  • Comfortable writing HTML, CSS, and JavaScript (React is a strong bonus).

📋 The hiring process

We respect your time and aim to keep things simple, transparent, and human. Here's what to expect:

  1. Discovery Call (30 min) with our People Team to get to know you and your goals.

  2. Hiring Manager interview (60 min) with Samy, our Co-founder and CTO, todiving deeper into your experience and skills.

  3. Portfolio Review / Case Study (60 min) with peers. Walk us through your process and craft.

  4. CEO Interview (30 min) for healthy alignment to answer your final questions

*This process is not set in stone, we might add steps to the process as we go along, like a work sample. We will make sure to keep you posted!

👥 Join GitBook at a pivotal time as we evolve our product and team. This is a chance to shape our product, craft, and culture.
