Team Description
We're looking for a Principal Software Engineer to help build our next-generation data pipeline platform — an interactive, canvas-based tool that lets customers visually design and orchestrate complex data processing workflows.
Think drag-and-drop pipeline construction meets enterprise-grade data governance: users can build sophisticated flows that ensure data quality, enforce compliance rules, and surface anomalies in real time. It's technically challenging, highly visual, and solves real problems for customers managing data at scale.
We ship multiple times a day. We collaborate closely, move fast, and take pride in getting working software into production. If you thrive in environments where you can make decisions, ship code, and see impact quickly, you'll fit right in.
Your Impact
- Build the backend engine that executes customer-defined data pipelines — orchestration, transformation, validation, and anomaly detection
- Develop the interactive canvas UI in React — intuitive, responsive, and capable of handling complex workflow visualisations
- Design the real-time infrastructure that processes streaming data and surfaces insights as they happen
- Own features end-to-end — from design through to production
- Shape technical direction and platform strategy alongside architects
- Raise the bar through code reviews, mentorship, and hands-on leadership
- Continuously improve our tooling, performance, and developer experience
Your Qualifications
- Extensive experience in software engineering, ideally in platform or data-heavy environments
- Deep expertise in Java and/or Kotlin — you understand the JVM inside out
- Solid grounding in event-driven architecture and real-time data processing (Kafka, Flink, or Pulsar experience a plus)
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and containerised deployments
- Comfort with CI/CD pipelines and shipping frequently
- A bias for action — you'd rather try something and iterate than wait for perfect information
- Clear communication skills and a collaborative mindset
Preferred Skills
- Genuine curiosity — you're energised by learning new technologies and approaches
- You've influenced technical strategy and architecture decisions at scale
- You enjoy mentoring others and building engineering culture, not just systems
- You've operated in high-throughput, high-reliability environments
- You're comfortable with distributed teams and asynchronous collaboration
