JOB TITLE: Principal Design Researcher (12-Months FTC)

SALARY: £76,194 - £89,640

LOCATION: Chester / Manchester

HOURS: Full-Time
DURATION: 12-Months Fixed-Term Contract

WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time in the office.

About the opportunity

At Lloyds Banking Group, we are seeking an exceptional and experienced Principal Design Researcher to join our Experience Design Team. If you have a passion for uncovering insights, driving innovation, and crafting customer-centric solutions, this is the role for you.
 

As a driving force in shaping the future of our organisation, your keen eye for detail and critical thinking will be instrumental in understanding the needs of our customers and clients, enabling us to deliver experiences that exceed their expectations.

Your days will be filled with exciting challenges and rewarding opportunities. Responsible for all research activities within your domain, guiding the team in translating business objectives into well-crafted research plans.

 

For this role, we're looking for a talented individual contributor. We need someone who is self-directed, and comfortable jumping in and having an impact right away. You'll be able to collaborate closely with the other researchers and designers in the team, and we expect that you'll model how to conduct effective and impactful research. While you won't have formal line management responsibilities, you'll play a crucial role in supporting team development through coaching.
Joining the leadership team of a multi-disciplinary Design Squad, you will collaborate with analytical practitioners to triangulate the primary and secondary insights that will underpin our design approaches and
future product direction and deliver exceptional customer experiences. Your ability to work alongside Commercial, Product and Engineering communities will ensure that our research efforts are precisely aligned with their needs, driving the efficient delivery of high quality, impactful stories.
 

The successful candidate will be someone with a true passion for design research, an insatiable curiosity, and a desire to make a difference. Your deep understanding of research methodologies and industry practices will elevate our capabilities and keep us ahead of the competition.
 

What you'll need

  • Extensive design research expertise, including a strong practical understanding of when and how to apply a broad range of research techniques.

  • Able to lead the strategic insight agenda in your domain, designing research studies that help to understand future customer needs, proactively ensuring product management have the right insights to understand customer and commercial opportunities and designers have the right insights to inform their approaches.

  • Strong stakeholder management skills - working closely with various teams to understand business objectives and address their hypotheses with detailed research proposals and plans,

  • Able to identify the most important and relevant insights from research, and confident to convey those in an influential manner. Experience will allow you to lead by example in advocating for good research practices across your wider team.

  • Strong project management capabilities, adaptable and able to supervise and deliver multiple projects at the same time.

  • Able to work with service designers and data analysts to demonstrate both quantitative and qualitative insights to help teams make more customer-centred decisions.

  • Experience with quantitative and qualitative design research methods.

  • Knowledge of and experience being an advocate for accessibility and inclusive design.
