Payroll Controller

We are looking for a hands-on and fast-learning Payroll Controller to join our dynamic Payroll team within the Finance function to accelerate Adyen's growth and fully realize our 2025 strategy, which focuses on cultivating a data-driven people culture. This is a unique opportunity to leverage your expertise and proactive mindset to meet the growing demands of our expanding global presence. You'll play a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of payroll for our most valuable asset – our people!

As a Payroll Controller, you will be instrumental in coordinating payroll for a portfolio of our 20+ entities globally, working closely with our external payroll providers. You'll report directly to the Global Payroll Team Lead, operating from our Amsterdam office .

What you'll do

Automation and Scale

  • Be the champion for Payroll automation, data, and scale. 
  • Advance organizational effectiveness and solve challenges by tapping into your Payroll expertise. 
  • Support and scale ongoing team projects by working closely with external vendors, and every part of the Finance and HR Team.

Payroll Operations, Data and Compliance

  • Partner externally and internally to manage Payroll compliance with local employment laws and regulations.
  • Collaborate with the accounting and finance teams to provide commentary on the journals and reconciliation (for assigned regions).
  • Participate in internal and external audits, ensuring all payroll processes and documentation are robust and compliant
  • Provide standard and ad-hoc payroll reports to various internal departments such as HR, Finance, Accounting, Tax and Equity.
  • Research and monitor evolving payroll legislation and tax requirements across relevant global jurisdictions, proactively implementing necessary changes

Who you are

  • You have proven experience (1-5 years) in payroll processing (in-house / outsourced model) 
  • You're a proactive go-getter who isn't afraid to think outside the box, constantly seeking ways to improve and automate processes while taking ownership and tackling new challenges
  • You have a natural curiosity that allows you to tackle difficult questions with enthusiasm
  • You have a global mindset, and are able to work across time zones and cultures
  • You are highly execution-driven- you apply your strategic perspective, connect the dots but also roll up your sleeves and translate ideas into action tomorrow
  • You are a strong team player and enjoy driving success collaboratively with others
  • Experience processing equity transactions, including RSU and ESPP is preferred, but not required
