Job Description:
This role is to fulfil a requirement for a skilled network engineer to work as part of a team managing the network at a fixed Customer site based in Yeovil, Somerset.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the analysis, design, installation, configuration, maintenance and repair of network infrastructure and application components to ensure the network performance meets Customer satisfaction. In addition, the role will also require liaising with the Customer to provide direction, information, and recommendations regarding network configurations, installations and security.
The successful candidate must be willing to go on 24x7 "On-call" support rotation if required.
DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION:
Required competencies:
- Network management – design, installation, configuration, management, connectivity (ether channel, 802.1x), and troubleshooting of complex switching, routing, and wireless LAN/WAN environments.
- Firewall management – installation, configuration, management and troubleshooting.
- VPN management – installation, configuration, management and troubleshooting site to site and remote user VPNs;
- Cabling and patching.
- Configuring telephony and VoIP, understanding VoIP protocols.
- Windows server management, particularly understanding and configuring DHCP, DNS, NPS.
- Good understanding of SAN technologies.
- Strong troubleshooting skills.
- Using and understanding network analysing tools (e.g. Wireshark);
- Knowledge of help desk system and managing service requests / incidents / problems.
- Respond to users with set service level agreements (SLA’s);
- Provide 3rd line technical support and assist 1st/2nd line support resolution.
- Attention to detail and the ability to meet agreed build standards.
- Ability to explain technical concepts and provide guidance to the Customer.
- Ability to write technical documentation for all aspects of the technical infrastructure.
- Good organisational and communication skills.
DESIRABLE SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Network engineering experience (Cisco);
- Cisco Switching & Routing (CCNA/CCNP);
- Firewall administration and configuration experience;
- VPN experience IPSEC & SSL;
- Wireless experience (Cisco Wireless Access Points and Controllers);
- VoIP experience (Cisco Call Manager);
- Brocade SAN fabric switches;
- Cisco port security 802.1x;
- Microsoft DNS, DHCP & NPS;
- Strong interpersonal, facilitation skills along with effective communication (both written and verbal) skills;
- Good project management skills;
- Valid UK driving license;
- SC Cleared or eligible and prepared to attain SC Clearance.
- Additional Cisco certification – wireless, security;
- Checkpoint CCSA certification;
- Telephony (Alcatel);
- VMware experience;
- Microsoft experience - Windows Server and Client, Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, Exchange Server;
- Scripting;
- Network monitoring tools and performance monitoring (Nagios, Cacti, NeDi);
- ITIL certification.
Other Qualifications:
• An advanced degree in a relevant field is a plus
• Relevant certifications, such as CompTIA A+, AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, or Microsoft 365 Certified: Fundamentals, are a plus
