Job Description

This hybrid role offers a great balance of home and office working. You’ll join your colleagues in your local office 2/3 days a week.

As the UK’s largest fibre-only network, and its only proven wholesale challenger, we’re busy setting new standards for what digital infrastructure can and should be.

Designed from scratch for the internet, our network is greener, more reliable and ready for the future. The products we provide over it not only lead the market on speed, value and service, they help businesses to innovate, provide entire communities with a better foundation for their digital lives and support economic growth, locally and nationally.

What does that mean for you? The opportunity to make internet connections (and daily life) a whole lot better, for a lot of people!

Joining us as a DWDM Network Engineer

You’ll be responsible for the development and delivery of the CityFibre DWDM & Optical service portfolio across their technology lifecycle, ensuring solutions are delivered at pace in a standard, scalable, supportable, and secure manner.

You’ll receive a competitive salary, a performance-related bonus, and a range of benefits to support you across your financial, physical, and mental wellbeing.

Day to day, this is what you can expect to be doing:

  • Interpreting internal or external business requirements: Recommend solutions and best practices specifically for DWDM networks
  • Creating and contributing to High-level and Low-level designs: Develop detailed designs, test plans, and Method of Procedures for DWDM systems
  • Solving complex problems: Apply functional knowledge and existing methodologies to address complex issues in DWDM network design and implementation

What you’ll bring to the role:

You’ll have technical depth and breadth of optical engineering expertise along with knowledge of transmission DWDM technologies (RLS, ROADM, transponder, etc.), including but not limited to Ciena. You’ll also have:

  • Experience with Transmission management platforms: Proficiency in using platforms like Ciena MCP
  • Knowledge of routing protocols and data networks: Understanding of how these integrate with DWDM systems
  • Experience in the delivery of transmission networks: Proven track record of delivering DWDM networks in line with design documents
