We are worlds largest distributed platforms. Our platform handles a significant portion of the worlds Internet traffic. The Network Design team creates technical guidance which allows standard Akamai installations to be built at scale. Also helps determine deployment feasibilities, identify standards for new network technologies and hardware.

As a Network Design Engineer II, you will develop, design. and create templates for installations that are part of Akamai's worldwide network of servers. You will be a technical SME to understand & build a planet-sized network

As a Network Design Engineer II, you will be responsible for:

  • Enhancing the design, development, and ongoing optimization of Akamai's Network Fabric to ensure scalability and performance for Edge, Compute, AI workloads.
  • Developing product and program requirements to design network features and produce detailed technical outputs, including diagrams, material inventories, and rack elevations.
  • Coordinating with engineering build teams to help them understand network design documents for accurate network infrastructure deployment
  • Supporting technical writers/trainers in documentation that explains complex internal technology concepts, design standards and deployment best practices
  • Identifying and participating in internal workflow and process improvement opportunities within Akamai

Do what you love

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Have a Bachelors in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Have a minimum 5 y of hands-on network and server hardware, network switches and routers experience.
  • Have a minimum 5 y of experience with network switches and routers.
  • Have at of experience with Microsoft Visio or an equivalent network diagramming tool and server deployment in a datacenter environment.
