We are looking for an experienced microwave engineer with deep expertise in all elements of the RF chain for powering electron Linacs.  The candidate should have deep familiarity with key elements, such as magnetrons, circulators, water loads and directional couplers.  In addition, the candidate should be proficient in the use of relevant diagnostic techniques and equipment, such as network analyzers and power meters, for example.  Additional experience with commercial microwave simulation software, such as CST, Linac design and electromagnetic beam transport physics is a plus. 
We are looking for a team player who combines a solid technical background with a practical mindset and hands-on aptitude.  Ability to collaborate effectively in a multi-disciplinary team is essential, as are strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to efficiently manage project timelines in a fast-paced environment. 

This hybrid role is requiring the successful candidate to reside in Palo Alto or near the Palo Alto area.

Responsibilities will include

  • Microwave system design work and data collection.
  • Work with other scientists and engineers to review and solve difficult technical issues.
  • Serve as a technical expert on microwave projects and as a resource to other related projects at Varian
  • Provide support and expertise to Manufacturing and Field Service Engineering groups
  • Coordinate resources needed to complete a task or project.
  • Improve documentation, baseline data and operating and maintenance procedures.
  • Provide scope, cost and schedule estimates for research and engineering projects

Job Requirements

  • MS/Ph.D. in Microwave Engineering or similar field
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in the design, construction, implementation and maintenance of high power microwave systems
  • Experience operating relevant lab equipment
  • Highly motivated team player who can also work independently
  • Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to interact effectively with experts in multiple disciplines.

The base pay range for this position is

Min $126,200 - Max $189,200

Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Siemens Healthineers offers a variety of health and wellness benefits including paid time off and holiday pay.
