Our Team

At Semtech, our Bristol Engineering team is at the forefront of analog and mixed-signal semiconductor design for optical communications.
We are a recognised leader in laser driver, transimpedance amplifier (TIA), and integrated transceiver ICs — the silicon that powers fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) networks and hyperscale datacentre interconnects worldwide.

This is a technically ambitious, collaborative environment where engineers solve problems that matter at global scale. As part of Semtech Corporation (NASDAQ: SMTC) — headquartered in Camarillo, California with 31 offices across 14 countries — you will combine the reach of a global organisation with the agility and influence of a focused engineering team.

Job Summary

We are looking for a talented and motivated Analog Design Manager to lead a team of skilled analog IC design engineers at our Bristol office, spanning Associate through to Senior level.

Reporting to the Director or VP of Design Engineering, you will provide direct oversight and day-to-day leadership of your team, supporting technical decision-making, managing project assignments, and driving execution.
You will play a hands-on role in guiding engineers through complex design challenges while maintaining a clear view of schedule, quality, and delivery.

This role is ideal for an experienced analog IC engineer who is ready to step fully into people leadership, combining deep technical credibility with the ability to build, develop, and retain a high-performing design team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct team leadership and management of analog design engineers, including performance management, development planning, mentorship, and goal-setting aligned to short- and long-term business needs. Lead recruitment, retention, and engagement strategies to build and sustain a world-class analog IC design capability. (30%)
  • Oversee project and product development execution — assigning accountabilities, managing schedules and budgets, acting as point of escalation, and ensuring technical requirements are met. Drive completion of assigned products to agreed specifications on time and within budget. (30%)
  • Work with VP Design Engineering, Marketing, and other design groups to establish and implement product line development priorities. Provide recommendations on staffing, timescales, process technology options, and feasibility and risk assessments to support strategic and technical roadmaps. (20%)
  • Collaborate across design groups to share technical knowledge, contribute to design guidelines, and promote rigorous design philosophies that maximise quality and first-time-right outcomes. Nurture relationships with Sales and Marketing to maintain awareness of IC market developments. (20%)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
  • 8+ years of analog IC design experience in product development environments.
  • Experience as a project leader, heading new product developments from inception to market introduction.
  • Broad knowledge of IC design and modelling tools across the design flow.
  • Experience with multiple process technologies, including SiGe BiCMOS and CMOS (GaAs exposure advantageous).
  • Ability to assess and review the work of others, identify potential issues, and propose alternative approaches or solutions.
  • Knowledge and experience in signal integrity markets such as Data Centre, 5G wireless, and PON.
  • Excellent collaboration, teamwork, and team-building skills.
  • Clear and confident written and verbal communicator across technical and business audiences.

Desired Qualifications

  • Prior people management experience within an analog or mixed-signal IC design environment.
  • Direct experience with laser driver, TIA, or integrated transceiver IC development for optical communications.
  • Familiarity with FTTH and/or datacentre interconnect market dynamics and customer requirements.
  • Experience contributing to product roadmap planning and engaging with Marketing and Sales stakeholders.
  • Experience operating within a multinational publicly listed technology company.

Why Join Us?

  • Join a world-class analog design team working on high-volume products that underpin the networks connecting the world.
  • Develop your leadership career in an environment that values technical depth and people management equally.
  • Work within a global organisation with genuine local influence — your decisions shape real products and real teams.
  • Collaborate with experienced engineers across Bristol and international partner sites.
  • Access a competitive compensation package underpinned by Semtech’s pay-for-performance philosophy.

Career Growth Philosophy

At Semtech, we seek innovation and leadership from every member of our team. We invest in our people with the support, resources, and opportunity to excel — and we recognise and reward those who drive results.
This role is an outstanding platform to grow as both an engineering leader and a technical authority, with a clear pathway into more senior leadership as the business continues to scale.
