Legal Counsel – Commercial Contracts

Hybrid working: we spend 2 days together a week, with this role based in our Manchester, Spinningfields office.

Help households save money, and become a member of our in-house legal team.

At MONY Group, we’ve spent the last 30 years making it easier for people to save on their household bills, growing beyond comparison to support multiple areas of daily spending. Today, we’re a thriving, agile business unit with a big mission: deliver innovative partnerships backed by the scale and support of a wider Group infrastructure. Our work is fast-paced, collaborative, and constantly evolving – just like the team that powers it.

We’re now looking for a dedicated Legal Counsel specialising in Commercial Contracts to join our dynamic legal team. If you’re a commercially-minded solicitor or barrister with the ability to translate complex contracts into business-savvy outcomes, we want to hear from you!

What you’ll be doing:

  • Draft the deals that drive our business: from B2B partnerships to supplier agreements and affiliate marketing contracts, you’ll draft, review and negotiate a wide variety of high-impact commercial agreements.
  • Be a key legal partner across the Group: work closely with our procurement, commercial, and data protection teams to support innovation and deliver smart, compliant solutions.
  • Lead with knowledge: take ownership of our contract training initiatives and ensure our precedents stay sharp, relevant, and ready for action.
  • Own our contract lifecycle: keep things running efficiently through the management of our Docusign Contract Management System.
  • Tackle customer challenges with confidence: advise on customer-facing legal issues and help resolve queries and complaints with clarity and care.
  • Get the best from external counsel: manage external legal advisors and translate complex advice into practical, business-friendly guidance.
  • Make your mark across the business: contribute to legal training, governance reporting, and key cross-functional projects that shape how we work and grow.

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • You’re a UK-qualified solicitor or barrister with PQE experience in commercial contract drafting. However, we will use PQE used as an indicator with a willingness to accept other levels dependent on experience.
  • You’ve got a proven grasp of commercial law and data protection and you know how to apply that knowledge in a practical, business-focused way.
  • You’re confident drafting and negotiating contracts that hold up to scrutiny and support commercial success.
  • You're a natural communicator who can engage with colleagues at every level and make complex legal issues easy to understand.
  • You’re a self-starter who brings energy, initiative, and a positive attitude – but you also know the value of teamwork and collaboration.
  • You’re curious, commercially aware, and excited to learn the business inside out so you can make a real impact.

Nice-to-haves:

  • Experience working in-house and understanding how legal advice fits into the bigger business picture.
  • Exposure to marketing or technology contracts
