Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, the Junior Buyer will support procurement activities to a manufacturing and engineering business, leading on specific projects when requested. This position would suit someone with strong IT, analytical & attention to detail skills who has relevant commercial experience within a fast-paced working environment.
Role Responsibilities:
The role entails but is not limited to: -

  • Liaising with the Purchasing team, Management and Engineering on Purchasing issues.
  • Working alongside the Purchasing team to achieve the team and companies' strategic vision and targets.
  • Quotation analysis and comparison reporting.
  • General Purchase administration, processing of Purchasing documentation and reporting as necessary, including but not limited to, raising orders (on SAP) and facilitating sign offs, facilitating supplier set ups/changes etc, and minimising PO arrears.
  • Generating RFQ's, vendor selection and facilitating/conducting contract negotiations with potential/existing suppliers to ensure all aspects of the business requirements are covered.
  • Working on cost reduction activities (from cradle to grave) in line with global and regional material cost reduction targets. Tracking of savings projects and reporting accurate forecasts and actuals in Savings Tracker, including supplier surcharge mechanisms.
  • Basic financial computations using Magna cost models, including capacity utilisation, etc.
  • Assisting with the completion of all Purchasing tasks to the required project dates/timing milestones.
  • Controlling the purchase of items into the business and maintenance of the order process.
  • Producing timely and accurate management information KPI's.
  • Promotion of the companies HSE policies across the department and plant.


Qualifications and Experience:
Knowledge and Education

  • Knowledge of SAP is essential.
  • CIPS qualified or studying/willing to study towards completing it.
  • Good basic standard of education: literacy and numeracy.
  • Excellent IT skills - especially Microsoft packages.
  • Proficient with spreadsheets, word processing, and other computer programs.
  • Understanding of cost breakdown analysis, including raw material cost, freight/packaging, customs/duties, labour, burden, SG&A, profit, etc.
  • Ability to compare quotes and easily spot areas for improvement, using effective processes and tools.
  • Eligible to work in the UK.


Work Experience

  • Commercial experience within an Engineering or Manufacturing environment
