Job Description

The HR Advisor provides practical, proactive HR support to managers and employees across the business. 

The role supports the day-to-day delivery of HR advice, employee relations case management, people initiatives and the consistent application of HR policies and processes. 

Working with HR colleagues, the HR Advisor helps managers resolve people issues, build confidence in managing employees and ensure decisions are fair, consistent, legally compliant and aligned with business needs. 

Key Responsibilities 

HR Advisory Support 

  • Build effective working relationships with managers and employees across business areas. 
  • Provide practical, timely and commercially balanced HR advice on a wide range of people matters. 
  • Act as a first point of contact for managers on employee relations, policy and people management issues. 
  • Support managers in applying HR policies, procedures and best practice consistently. 
  • Respond to and resolve HR queries, escalating complex or high-risk issues where appropriate. 
  • Support managers in creating positive and productive working environments.  

Employee Relations Case Management 

  • Manage a broad range of employee relations cases, including absence, disciplinary, grievance, capability, probation, flexible working and family-friendly matters. 
  • Guide managers through formal and informal processes, ensuring legal compliance and procedural consistency. 
  • Prepare documentation, correspondence and case records to support case management. 
  • Promote early intervention and informal resolution wherever appropriate. 
  • Identify recurring issues and work with the HR Business Partners to implement preventative actions. 
  • Support organisational change, restructuring and consultation activity as required.  

Manager Capability and Employee Support 

  • Coach managers on people management practices and employee relations matters. 
  • Support managers in setting objectives, managing performance and conducting effective people conversations. 
  • Deliver or support manager briefing sessions and HR training workshops. 
  • Help increase manager understanding of employment legislation, policy and best practice. 
  • Support the embedding of company values and expected behaviours. 
  • Contribute to initiatives that improve employee engagement and employee experience.  

Workforce Planning and Talent Support 

  • Support workforce planning activities by providing people data and operational insight. 
  • Assist with succession planning and talent review processes. 
  • Support recruitment activities and onboarding programmes as required. 
  • Work with Learning and Development colleagues to identify capability and development needs. 
  • Assist in implementing retention and development initiatives across the business. 
  • Support internal career progression and development opportunities.  

Data and Reporting  

  • Monitor and analyse people metrics including absence, turnover, vacancies and employee relations activity. 
  • Produce reports and insights that support effective decision making. 
  • Identify trends, risks and opportunities and make recommendations for improvement. 
  • Maintain accurate HR records and case documentation. 
  • Contribute to policy reviews and updates. 
  • Identify opportunities to improve HR processes, documentation and manager self-service resources.  

Project and Team Contribution 

  • Support the delivery of HR projects and people initiatives. 
  • Contribute to the implementation of organisational and cultural change activities. 
  • Work collaboratively with HR colleagues to deliver a seamless HR service. 
  • Support the creation and maintenance of HR templates, precedents and guidance materials. 
  • Share knowledge, best practice and lessons learned across the HR team. 
  • Champion company values and promote a positive employee experience.  

Knowledge, Skills and Experience 

Essential 

  • CIPD qualified or working towards.  
  • Experience providing generalist HR advisory support in a fast-paced organisation. 
  • Sound knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice. 
  • Experience managing employee relations cases independently. 
  • Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills. 
  • Ability to coach and influence managers at different levels. 
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills. 
  • Able to balance risk, compliance and commercial considerations. 
  • Experience analysing HR data and identifying trends. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and HR systems. 
  • Self-motivated, organised and able to manage multiple priorities.  

Desirable 

  • Experience working in a complex, multi-site, global organisation. 
  • Experience using Workday or similar HR information systems. 
  • Experience delivering manager training or workshops. 

Location: New Mills and Miskin (with travel to other UK sites as required)
