The successful candidate will be responsible for leading 3–4 engineering teams responsible for the backend services that power our AI/ML-native marketing platform, including data transfer, storage and querying, and message compilation, rendering, delivery and tracking. This is a unique opportunity to shape the technical foundation of a high-scale, distributed system while working with cutting-edge AI-driven marketing technologies. As a key leader, you'll drive execution, mentor engineering managers, and influence the future of our platform—ensuring both business impact and long-term technical excellence.
The role will be reporting to the Senior Vice President of Product and Engineering.
Responsibilities:
- Translate the product vision into clear engineering goals and ensure strong execution
- Enable teams to operate effectively and consistently meet delivery commitments
- Ensure smooth collaboration across interconnected product areas, proactively managing dependencies and preventing bottlenecks
- Maintain a culture of engineering excellence
- Collaborate closely with Product Management and Product Design to align engineering efforts
- Align investments with business objectives, effectively managing technical debt and balancing short-term delivery with long-term sustainability
- Develop and coach engineering managers, fostering leadership development, mentorship, and operational excellence
- Hire and retain strong, balanced teams with minimal attrition, proactively addressing performance concerns and maintaining high standards
- Cultivate a high-engagement, high-accountability environment where teams take strong ownership of outcomes
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of engineering leadership experience, including managing multiple teams and coaching engineering managers
- Strong foundational engineering expertise, with experience in system architecture, scalability, and modern development practices
- Proven ability to assess technical trade-offs and guide teams
- Experience leading teams through scaling challenges, implementing workflows that improve efficiency without excessive overhead
- Experience with high-volume delivery of marketing messages via email and mobile sending platforms
- Skilled at identifying and addressing performance issues constructively, with a track record of mentoring engineering managers and senior individual contributors
- Strong decision-making ability in ambiguous situations, effectively balancing speed and quality while iterating based on new data
- Excellent communication skills, able to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and advocate for engineering priorities at the leadership level and with cross-functional teams
- Operates with a strong sense of ownership and accountability for team outcomes
- Takes initiatives to solve problems proactively
