Design Engineer


We are a leading temporary works specialist and at the forefront of our industry for over 60 years, with a reputation built on engineering and service excellence. This enables us to deliver the right temporary works solution for our customers, whatever the scale or complexity of the project. Our customers include civil engineering and construction contractors, asset owners, and consulting engineering firms through to small builders.


Due to continued growth, we are currently looking for a design engineer to join our engineering team in Garswood. Reporting to a Design Team Leader, you will be responsible for producing temporary works designs and checks for excavation support, propping, formwork and falsework.


The role would suit an engineer with a few years post graduate experience with demonstratable technical experience in structures or geotechnical design and a sound understanding of temporary works. At Mabey Hire, the floor is yours to fulfil your potential and take us forward.

You will:

  • Prepare temporary works designs for our products.
  • Check designs and drawings in accordance with the appropriate standards.
  • Attend client meetings and carry out site visits.
  • Review design briefs provided by the sales team and provide feedback if more information is required.
  • Manage your own workload.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement projects as agreed by the Engineering Director.

You will have:

  • At least 3 years of experience designing temporary works, specifically either Cofferdams or Building Refurbishment.
  • A HND or degree in civil/structural engineering.
  • The ability to work in a fast paced and changing environment.
  • Good understanding of CDM 2019.
  • Experience utilising AutoCAD and/or REVIT.

We would also love it if you have:

  • General temporary works design experience - in particular Cofferdams, Building Refurbishment, and/or Formwork / Falsework.
  • Experience working for a temporary works supplier.
  • Some experience working on site or for a contractor.

As our next Design Engineer, you’ll collaborate with sales and operations to support our customers through engineering excellence.
