Mō te tūranga | About the Role

This is a 12 months fixed term contract

The Data Engineer is responsible for ensuring the quality, integrity, availability, and reliability of data that supports Westpac's Financial Crime platforms, including NetReveal. This role enables critical financial crime capabilities such as Transaction Monitoring, Customer Risk Assessment (CRA), Sanctions Screening, regulatory reporting, analytics initiatives, and audit remediation activities. 

Working closely with business stakeholders, AML Analytics, Technical Business Analysts, Engineers, and Vendors, the Data Engineer designs, develops, supports and improves data pipelines, ETL processes, integrations and data assets that underpin financial crime controls and decision-making.

Essential experience
  • Strong SQL skills.
  • Experience with data modelling and ETL/ELT development.
  • Knowledge of batch processing and data quality management.
  • Experience with data reconciliation and root cause analysis.
  • Exposure to incident management and production support.
  • Experience working in financial services or complex enterprise data environments.
Ideally, you'll also have
  • Experience with Financial Crime or AML platforms.
  • Oracle PL/SQL and Python skills.
  • Knowledge of Kafka, Snowflake, or Control-M.
  • Experience with cloud technologies and CI/CD practices.
  • Exposure to regulatory reporting environments.
  • Familiarity with NetReveal or similar financial crime solutions.
