Mob Entertainment is a startup multimedia studio that is best known for our hit indie horror game "Poppy Playtime".  This franchise is one of the hottest new properties in gaming, and our team is naturally expanding as our ambition expands.  To give a taste of our brand's popularity, more than 100 billion YouTube views of Poppy Playtime related content have occured since the game's launch 4 years ago. 


Mob Entertainment is seeking an experienced Senior Pixel 2D Artist to join our creative team. In this role, you’ll lead the creation of high-quality pixel art assets, animations, tilemaps, and sprites that bring our characters, creatures, and environments to life. You will work from concept art, ensuring consistency with the game’s visual style, and have a strong impact on the aesthetic and design direction. This position requires expert knowledge of Unreal Engine, including the Paper2D and PaperZD plugins, for creating and implementing flipbook animations, tilemaps, and sprites. As a senior team member, you’ll also mentor junior artists, collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams, and maintain high-quality standards across all 2D art assets.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and creation of pixel art assets, including characters, creatures, environments, objects, and detailed tilemaps.

  • Scope, estimate, and track work throughout the development process.

  • Develop, animate, and implement flipbook animations and sprites within Unreal Engine, ensuring fluidity and visual cohesion.

  • Work closely with concept art, translating initial designs into in-game, readable pixel art while preserving the game’s artistic vision.

  • Design modular tilemaps and environmental elements to build immersive and cohesive game worlds.

  • Collaborate with designers, animators, and technical artists, ensuring pixel assets meet gameplay and performance requirements.

  • Optimize assets for real-time performance in Unreal Engine, using best practices for memory and efficiency.

  • Provide mentorship to junior and mid-level artists, offering guidance on technical and artistic challenges.

  • Work with the art director and production teams to establish and uphold visual standards, reviewing assets to ensure consistent quality.

Requirements:

  • Extensive experience in pixel art, with a portfolio showcasing high-quality pixel art, animations, and tilemaps, including character and environment work.

  • Proficiency in pixel animation, with a demonstrated ability to create smooth, expressive flipbook animations and sprite sheets.

  • Expert-level skills in Unreal Engine, particularly with Paper2D and PaperZD plugins, for integrating and optimizing 2D assets.

  • Strong understanding of pixel readability, color theory, and animation principles specific to pixel art.

  • Experience working with concept art and translating it into detailed, in-style pixel art that aligns with project vision.

  • Familiarity with optimizing pixel assets for real-time use, including tilemaps, animated sprites, and effects.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple departments, providing clear feedback and guidance as needed.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working on action, adventure, or platformer games.

  • Knowledge of advanced Unreal Engine tools or techniques for 2D workflows and optimization.

  • Proven ability to mentor and guide junior team members in both technical and artistic aspects.

  • Understanding of game-ready art production pipelines and asset management for large-scale projects.
