At Biffa, we're changing the way people think about waste. We're looking for a passionate, driven and environmentally focused Community & Social Value Manager to lead the development and delivery of our social value programme across Greater Manchester and the North West.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about sustainability, community engagement and education. You'll be responsible for raising the profile of Biffa within local communities, schools, colleges, universities and businesses while creating meaningful social value initiatives that support our customers and the communities we serve.

Working closely with both our Municipal and Industrial & Commercial (I&C) operations, you'll inspire people to recycle more, coordinate volunteering activities, build valuable partnerships and help showcase the positive impact Biffa delivers every day.

What you'll be doing
  • Lead and develop a small team to deliver Biffa's community engagement and social value programme.
  • Build strong relationships with schools, colleges, universities, local authorities, community groups and businesses.
  • Organise educational visits to Biffa facilities and deliver engaging recycling and environmental presentations in schools and community settings.
  • Develop volunteering opportunities for Biffa employees and external organisations, including universities and colleges.
  • Create and manage a rolling programme of community events across the region.
  • Represent Biffa at exhibitions, careers fairs, networking events and community initiatives.
  • Work with Marketing to promote community projects, volunteering activities and environmental campaigns across social media channels.
  • Produce reports demonstrating social value outcomes, community impact and potential business opportunities generated.
  • Support business development teams by evidencing social value achievements within customer tenders and presentations.
  • Promote graduate opportunities, placements and project work with local colleges and universities.
  • Coach, motivate and develop your team to achieve agreed objectives and continually improve performance.
What we're looking for

We're looking for someone who can build relationships with confidence, inspire others and genuinely wants to make a difference to communities and the environment.

You'll ideally have:

  • An environmental qualification
  • A genuine passion for recycling, sustainability and environmental education.
  • Experience in community engagement, stakeholder management or social value delivery.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills with the ability to engage audiences of all ages.
  • Experience managing projects and coordinating multiple activities.
  • The ability to build lasting partnerships across education, local government, businesses and community organisations.
  • Experience leading, motivating and developing a team.
  • Strong report writing and organisational skills.
  • Confidence using social media to promote campaigns and community activity.
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the region.
  • An enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
Why join Biffa?

At Biffa, you'll be part of a business that's leading the UK's transition towards a circular economy. This role offers the opportunity to create real environmental and social impact while helping shape the future of recycling across Greater Manchester and the North West.

If you're passionate about sustainability, enjoy engaging with people and want to make a lasting difference in local communities, we'd love to hear from you.
