Overview
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Commercial team within Vocalink Limited's Product Management function.
Vocalink plays a critical role at the heart of the UK economy - enabling 90% of salaries, 70% of utility bill payments, the majority of ATM transactions, and the clearing of every cheque in the country. Our infrastructure supports more than 60 million citizens every day, processing over 11 billion transactions annually with a combined value exceeding £6 trillion.
As a Commercial Manager, you will be a key member of the team responsible for ensuring Vocalink meets its contractual obligations, supporting the business in responding to customer requests, and acting as a cross functional centre of excellence for all commercial matters. You will collaborate closely with colleagues across Product, Finance, Legal, Operations, and Technology to ensure Vocalink continues to deliver market leading services and responds effectively to evolving requirements.
Roles and Responsibilities
Commercial Oversight
Support customer contract renewals, renegotiations, and commercial discussions.
Lead the commercial management of major projects and strategic opportunities, coordinating cross-functional stakeholders.
Provide commercial expertise on complex procurement activities, supplier negotiations, sourcing strategies, and vendor relationship management.
Lead the evaluation of commercial opportunities, including financial modelling, cost estimation, pricing, and the development of business cases.
Support Vocalink's change governance processes, ensuring commercial implications, risks, dependencies, and contractual considerations are fully understood and appropriately managed throughout the change lifecycle
Identify, assess, and mitigate commercial risks across the product portfolio.
Provide surge capacity and specialist commercial support during periods of heightened activity, major regulatory change, contract negotiations, customer escalations, strategic programmes, and critical business initiatives.
Contract Compliance
Act as a key commercial lead for Voaclink's major scheme and customer contracts, ensuring contractual obligations, service commitments, governance requirements, and financial arrangements are clearly understood, monitored, and fulfilled.
Partner with Product, Legal, Compliance, Operations, and Finance teams to interpret contractual requirements and translate them into practical business, operational, and product delivery actions.
Monitor contract performance, identifying compliance risks and areas of ambiguity for clarification.
Provide commercial guidance during the development and implementation of new products, services, and change initiatives to ensure adherence to contractual frameworks and customer commitments.
Regulatory Developments
Partner closely with Compliance, Legal, Regulatory, Finance, and Product teams to assess emerging regulatory developments and evaluate their impact on Vocalink's services, operating model, and contractual arrangements.
Translate complex regulatory requirements into clear, actionable commercial, operational, and strategic recommendations for senior leadership and business stakeholders.
Lead commercial impact assessments for regulatory change, including the evaluation of customer charging models, cost recovery mechanisms, implementation approaches, and financial implications.
About You
We are looking for a commercially minded and highly adaptable professional who thrives in complex, fast-paced, and evolving environments. You will be comfortable operating across multiple disciplines, balancing strategic thinking with practical execution, and working with senior stakeholders to navigate ambiguity and drive outcomes.
You will bring strong commercial judgement, exceptional stakeholder management skills, and the ability to quickly understand complex business, contractual, regulatory, and operational challenges. Experience gained within a leading consultancy (Big 4 or equivalent) would be highly advantageous.
The successful candidate will be equally comfortable challenging assumptions, shaping business decisions, negotiating commercial outcomes, and translating complex issues into clear, actionable recommendations for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Essential Skills
Experience managing and negotiating large, complex commercial agreements, contracts, and strategic business arrangements.
Exceptional stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively across Product, Finance, Legal, Compliance, Operations, Procurement, and senior leadership teams.
Strong commercial acumen, with experience evaluating opportunities, assessing risks, and developing business cases.
Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous or rapidly changing environments, helping to establish governance, improve processes, and drive organisational clarity.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate complex information and make sound commercial recommendations.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to distil complex commercial, contractual, and regulatory matters into clear, concise, and actionable guidance.
Proven experience managing multiple priorities and delivering high-quality outcomes across a broad and diverse portfolio of work.
Strong project and programme management capabilities.
Desirable Skills
Experience gained within a top-tier consulting firm (Big 4 or equivalent), strategy function, or commercial advisory role.
Professional finance qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent commercial, legal, or business qualification.
Advanced financial modelling and Excel skills.
Knowledge of payments, financial services, scheme-based operating models, or other regulated infrastructure environments.
