Be the catalyst for a smarter, faster, more human claims experience !
At Markel, we believe that insurance is more than a policy , it’s a promise. A promise to support people when they need us most. As we continue to grow, innovate and evolve, we’re now looking for a Claims Digital & Technology Lead to shape the future of how claims are delivered across our UK business.
This is not a maintenance role. It’s a build-it, shape-it, lead-it opportunity, ideal for someone who thrives on modernising complex environments, influencing senior leaders, and driving transformation that leaves a legacy.

Why this role matters:

You’ll join the UK Claims Leadership Team, reporting directly to the Claims & Legal Services Director and become the strategic force behind our claims digital roadmap. You’ll decide what the future of claims looks like and then bring it to life.

If you want a role where your ideas are heard, your expertise is valued, and your work visibly improves customer experience and operational performance, you’ll feel right at home here.

What you’ll lead:

Strategy & Roadmap:

  • Own and evolve the UK Claims digital & technology strategy

  • Build and deliver a transformation roadmap that aligns with real business priorities

  • Find opportunities for automation, AI, workflow optimisation and smarter digital journeys

Cross-functional leadership:

  • Act as the single point of contact for all digital and tech initiatives affecting Claims

  • Work in partnership with IT, Operations, Data, and senior partners to translate claims needs into real solutions

  • Influence strategic technology decisions across the wider organisation.

Solution design & delivery:

  • Evaluate and adopt best‑in‑market tools, platforms and technologies.

  • Lead implementation across Claims, ensuring new systems genuinely improve how people work

  • Champion AI/ML, cloud tools, automation and data solutions to enhance performance and customer outcomes

Change management & adoption:

  • Drive the change — not just the technology

  • Shape communications, training and adoption plans so teams embrace new ways of working

  • Track and report success using clear indicators connected to service, quality, and efficiency

Governance & compliance:

  • Ensure all solutions meet regulation, data integrity and internal governance standards

What you’ll bring:

You’re someone who combines technical depth with commercial perspective and the ability to influence at all levels.

Must haves:

  • Significant experience leading digital or technology change within insurance claims or a closely related sector

  • Strong understanding of claims processes, platforms and operations

  • Proven success delivering digital strategies and transformation roadmaps

  • Experience working cross‑functionally with senior leaders and IT partners

  • Hands‑on knowledge of claims systems, automation, AI/ML, cloud solutions and data analytics

  • Exceptional communication skills — credible, collaborative and pragmatic

Nice to have:

  • Experience in regulated insurance environments

  • Certifications in digital transformation, project management or emerging technologies

What’s in it for you:

  • Competitive salary + generous annual bonus

  • Hybrid working

  • 25 days’ holiday + bank holidays (with buy/sell options)

  • Excellent pension

  • Private medical & dental cover

  • Life assurance, income protection & travel insurance

  • Season ticket loan + wide range of additional benefits

  • Genuine career progression within a Fortune 500 business

  • A culture built on trust, integrity and teamwork
