The opportunity:
It’s an exciting time to join Markel as our business grows. We have an exciting brand new opportunity for a Business Systems Manager to join our team (3 days in the office / 2 days from home), based in our Manchester office.
The Direct Division offer a range of products including professional indemnity, public liability, employers' liability, D&O, property, occupational personal accident, legal representation and employment cover, and cyber. Our distribution channels fall into 3 key categories; markets which are created through direct-to-consumer channels; online or via our UK call centre, through our white label introducer network and our most recent development is the creation of our digital partner proposition providing API integrations into Insurtech's or broker platforms.
We have two retail brands that attract customers from different sectors of the micro/SME market.

Markel Direct - has been running for 10 years and targets multiple sectors including IT, fitness, Therapists, Photographers and Charities & Community Group.

Caunce O’Hara - offers specialist insurance to contractors, consultants, freelancers, self-employed professionals and to the oil & rail sectors.
To support the continued growth, we are seeking a dynamic Business Systems Manager to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for a proactive individual to lead the development of a new platform that will drive our business forward and make a real difference. The ideal candidate is an highly organised and communicative professional, who is passionate about making a significant impact.
In this position, you will collaborate extensively with project teams and third-party developers to improve processes, enhance efficiency, and suggest enhancements. Your expertise will be crucial in optimizing our business operations and ensuring effective systems management.
What you’ll be doing:

System Management: Execute, set up, and sustain business systems to ensure optimal performance

Integration: Oversee application integrations to guarantee smooth data flow and functionality

Project Management: Manage system-related projects, create plans, allocate resources, and track progress

Process Improvement: Optimize system efficiency and business processes to support organizational objectives

User Support: Deliver technical assistance and training programs to ensure effective use of business systems

Data Management: Maintain data integrity and accuracy and produce reports for business decision-making

Compliance and Security: Ensure adherence to cybersecurity regulations, conduct audits, and perform risk assessments

Collaboration: Partner with departments to fulfil their system requirements and enhance productivity

Problem Resolution: Address IT issues and lead troubleshooting efforts to reduce business disruptions

Quality Assurance: Supervise testing of system capabilities, data integrity, and user proficiency
Our must haves:

Demonstrated experience of working with systems in the insurance sector is essential!

Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of explaining complex concepts to non-technical individuals and preparing clear software documentation

Strong technical skills in developing and implementing new system solutions

Proficiency in Change Management to effectively drive and support business process, systems, and technology transitions with minimal disruption and maximum adoption

Comprehensive understanding of computer applications and systems

Exceptional analytical, innovative, and problem-solving abilities

Ability to perform under pressure in a dynamic working environment

The ability to negotiate with multiple businesses and stakeholders to resolve technical challenges

Excellent critical thinking skills and an open-minded approach to new ideas.

Bachelor's degree or technical certification - desirable
