The Role
WIRED is seeking a creative, news-obsessed Associate Manager of Social Media to join our Audience Development team. This role will work closely with WIRED’s editorial staff to shape how our journalism shows up across social platforms—translating breaking news, enterprise reporting, and cultural coverage into engaging, platform-native storytelling.
The Associate Manager will help grow WIRED’s loyal audience by increasing engagement, social referrals, and overall reach across platforms. This is a highly collaborative role for someone who understands both journalism and the fast-moving dynamics of social media.
This role is based in our London office.
What will you be doing?
Write, schedule, and optimize daily posts across multiple platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X, and Bluesky
Craft clear, accurate, and compelling social copy that adapts WIRED articles into Threads, Instagram carousels, and other platform-specific formats
Partner closely with editors and reporters to roll out major packages, scoops, and breaking news across social platforms
Create and/or build creative assets tailored to each platform, including images, short-form video, and text-forward formats
Ensure posts are optimized for performance and consistently tracked, analyzed, and reported on
Brainstorm new content ideas and test rollout strategies in collaboration with the Audience Development team
Monitor social conversations and identify opportunities for timely, reactive content that drives engagement
Collaborate with the social team and editors to refine social headlines, framing, and descriptions
Who you are:
At least 2 years of experience managing social media for a brand, newsroom, or publisher
A deep interest in politics, technology, science, and culture
Strong editorial judgment about where, when, and whether content should be shared across platforms, particularly in community-driven spaces like Reddit
Excellent writing and communication skills, with the ability to adapt voice and tone by platform
A strong understanding of social media trends and how to translate them into effective, on-brand content
Experience optimizing social content for engagement and/or traffic, informed by performance data
Comfort working with social analytics and using insights to guide strategy and experimentation
Experience using social publishing, scheduling, and analytics tools
Familiarity with WIRED’s journalism, audience, and voice
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
A sense of humor, curiosity, and flexibility in an ever-changing media landscape
An entrepreneurial mindset balanced with operational rigor and follow-through
