JOB TITLE: Assistant Finance Manager - Planning and Analysis (12 Month FTC)

SALARY: £44,901 - £49,890

LOCATION(S): Edinburgh

HOURS: Full-time

WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at our Edinburgh office.

About this opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Finance Manager to join the Planning and Analysis team, looking after the Group Executive Functions (GEF) area.

We’re part of the Group Cost & Investment Finance Division, with this role sitting within a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Group Cost Management. It reports to the Finance Manager for Group Functions Planning and Analysis. The CoE is dedicated to enabling and supporting Finance Business Partners and is made up of three specialist teams: Planning and Analysis (P&A), Reporting and Controls (R&C), and Performance Improvement (PI).

We’re looking for an analytical and proactive professional who is passionate about problem-solving, continuous improvement and delivering business value. You'll partner with stakeholders to turn complex information into meaningful insight, influence decision-making and help drive strategic change while developing your career in a supportive, high-performing team.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Assist on the production and development of insightful reporting and MI packs for e.g. Flash, month end and planning rounds.

  • Assist on the production of forecasting and strategic 4-year plans, working closely with our Finance Business Partners to provide the relevant insight and analysis to assist them to have the right conversations with their respective business areas.

  • Review, investigate and challenge material exceptions and provide high quality commentary.

  • Assist in the creation of scenario modelling and analysis for FBPs to support in other ad hoc analysis. Exercising robust controls and review processes to ensure the information provided is of a high standard.

  • Continuously promote and embed a process improvement culture within the team

  • Build and maintain regular contact and strong working relationships with key partners.

Working in the Group Cost & Investment team provides a fantastic opportunity to develop an understanding of the overall Divisional P&L, how this business operates and what influences the financial results, as well as gain exposure across the wider organisation. You'll primarily be focussing on end-to-end cost management for the Group Functions areas.

  • Part-qualified finance professional as a minimum, ideally with experience in the financial services sector.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex information and provide meaningful insight.

  • Highly organised, with excellent attention to detail and the ability to prioritise effectively in a fast-paced environment.

  • A proactive attitude with a genuine desire to challenge existing processes, identify improvements and drive continuous enhancement of systems, controls and ways of working.

  • Experience using finance systems and reporting tools, with the ability to quickly learn new technologies and processes.

  • Delivery-focused, with a commitment to producing high-quality outputs whilst meeting demanding deadlines.

  • Strong collaboration and partner engagement skills, with the ability to support reporting activities and effectively explain financial performance and business drivers.

  • Exposure to cost management and reporting.
