Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues. 

Accountabilities

  • Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.

To be successful as an AI Software Engineer, you should have experience with:

  • Strategic Technical Leadership - Driving the design and delivery of AI-enabled software solutions, providing technical direction, mentoring engineers, and evaluating emerging technologies including LLMs, RAG, AI agents, and Generative AI frameworks.

  • Cross-Functional Stakeholder Management - Partnering effectively with engineering, product, architecture, and business stakeholders to translate complex requirements into innovative AI-powered solutions and successful business outcomes.

  • Advanced Software Architecture - Architecting secure, scalable, and cloud-native applications using distributed systems, microservices, APIs, and modern engineering patterns, with experience integrating AI capabilities into enterprise-grade platforms.

Some other highly valued skills may include:

  • Experience in Large-Scale Legacy Enterprise Transformations - Modernising complex technology estates and embedding AI capabilities into existing enterprise systems.

  • Open-Source Contribution - Contributions to software engineering, AI, or open-source communities, demonstrating a passion for innovation and continuous learning.

  • Executive Communication Skills - Communicating technical strategy, architecture decisions, and the value of AI solutions effectively to senior leadership and non-technical stakeholders.
