Kao Data, a company that develops and operates data centers for AI and advanced computing, commenced construction on an industrial-scale center in Greater Manchester. The facility, located in Stockport, will span 25,900 square meters and consume 40 megawatts of power from fully renewable energy sources.

The facility aims to deepen Manchester’s reputation as a rising hub for digital infrastructure and technology innovation in the United Kingdom. Upon completion, the center will provide the necessary capacity for local tech businesses to scale and add jobs in the digital sector. The center is projected to create high-paying careers in areas like construction, engineering and operations.

“Beginning the development stage of our new data center marks an important milestone, not only for Kao Data, but for technology in Stockport and Greater Manchester,” Doug Loewe, Kao Data’s CEO, said in a statement. “The city region is becoming an increasingly strategic location for digital infrastructure investment, and our new facility – the largest and most sustainable in the north of England – further reinforces Greater Manchester’s position as a digital and economic powerhouse.”

The £350 million data center aims to deliver powerful computing capabilities to regional and international companies while also providing them with one of the most advanced and sustainable hosting environments across the continent.
