What we offer

We offer excellent development opportunities, a competitive salary, and exceptional benefits. These include bonus, employee support assistance and employee discounts.

Your needs are as unique as you are. Hybrid working is a way in which our people can balance their time between the office, home, or another remote location.  It’s a locally managed and flexed informal discretionary arrangement.  As a minimum we’re all expected to attend the workplace for collaboration and other specific reasons, on average three days per week.

What you will be doing

With this attractive opportunity you will get a chance to:

  • Be responsible for applying a system engineering approach to the realisation of a new system or the modification of an existing one, deployed in a particular project / multidisciplinary programme team.
  • Understand complex specifications and articulate them at a level commensurate with the respective audience. Authoring and reviewing engineering documentation in accordance with company and project quality processes.
  • Generate, evaluate, select, and document the most appropriate design or solution for a wide range of problems encountered.
  • Controlling/managing interface definitions/information both internal to Rolls-Royce and externally with clients and suppliers.
  • Defining and monitoring design Substantiation/Verification activities.
  • Undertake basic design calculations and understand the results of those more complex.
  • Undertake design schemes of electrical and control architectures.
  • Produce and review design manuals (Operation and Maintenance Manuals), produce commissioning instructions and strategies and other design reports.
  • Assess supplier equipment proposals and review their deliverables.
  • Be technically responsible for defining the scope of packages of work and providing delivery against programme milestones, such as: requirements documents, system operation and maintenance manuals, data sheets, optioneering studies, equipment specifications.
  • Ensure appropriate quality, governance, verification, and validation efforts are applied to all design gate reviews. Input to design reviews, HAZOPS and other reviews.

Who we’re looking for:

At Rolls-Royce we put safety first, do the right thing, keep it simple and make a difference. These principles form the behaviours that guide us and are an essential component of our assessment process. They are the fundamental qualities that we seek for all roles.

To be successful in this role you will need to:

  • Be a general engineer with a recognised engineering degree (e.g. mechanical, chemical or physics). A background in Mechanical or Process Engineering. The ideal candidate shall have sufficient understanding in other discipline areas to undertake the responsibilities listed.
  • Understanding of systems engineering as a discipline, with experience of Stage Gate type processes in nuclear or similar highly regulated environments
  • An ability to clearly articulate both written and verbally an argument and rationale of design development.
  • A working knowledge of Mathcad Prime, using IBM Doors and knowledge of through-life design considerations is desirable.
  • Good communicator with a wide range of stakeholders that demonstrates a logical approach to problem solving and has experience of working with multiple engineering disciplines.

We are an equal opportunities employer. We’re committed to developing a diverse workforce and an inclusive working environment. We believe that people from different backgrounds and cultures give us different perspectives which are crucial to innovation and problem solving. We believe the more diverse perspectives we have, the more successful we’ll be. By building a culture of caring and belonging, we give everyone who works here the opportunity to realise their full potential.
